1st gen tapping noise in 2.4l diesel

Hey guys, so i recently bought a 4runner (the one for sale from Deeceevee) and he said it may hve a dropped valve. Today i took the rocker cover off and could see that the valves were fine as were the springs, the tappets needed adjusting so i did that, but the tapping sound is still present. Has anyone come across anything like this before? I had a few mates who are mechanics have a listen prior to me opening it up and they too thought it would be valve related.
Any help would be appreciated!

Picures or it aint so :) That was a nice truck. How much did you get it for ?

I have a diesel and its common for them to have a slight tapping noise. Hasnt gotten any worst on mine and still running strong.

Lol im workin off an iphone so cant really get pics up! Gettin a comp soon, then i can upload some!
The noise is pretty prominant. Thinking i might need to get some diagnostic tools on the thing!
Picked it up for 3k, very happy with that price (not knowing the damage)
Hows your diesel go? Is yours turbo?

Good price. Awesome condition...hope the engine is not too much of an issue to get fixed. Should probably try to find a decent diesel mechanic to have a look.

I got 1 turbo and 2 non-turbos. Got no problems with them so far. (fingers crossed)

Yeah sweet, you from melb? Yeah i got a family friend coming to check it out this weekend. Fingers crossed at my end too!!
 
the 2l is know for timing issues because it uses a belt not a chain so i would replace the belt and tensioner and go from there.
