Had the first oil change done today (1600miles) and let me tell ya, I thought that BMW was good at ripping off people...Toyota takes the cake thats for sure.
First off, my first oil change was free from the dealer but because I wanted syn blend (not yet broken in to the point im putting full syn in it) so that was going to cost me the difference in price versus the normal Castrol that they put in.
So since it takes about 7 quarts to do, i got charged for 6 since the price of 5 quarts of regular sludge they use runs about the same as apparently 1 quart of the syn blend.
Well i go to check out and the service advisor is telling me about this situaiton and then wishes me luck and walks away. The nice 85 year old cashier lady then hits me up for $42 bucks total....or 6.50/quart, for GDMFSOB synthetic blend. At that point I thought I was a bit pissed, but then i look at the invoice and they have actually put in Castrol Syntec (full synthetic) and put in 10W-30 versus the 5W-30 that is called for.
Wow...thank god that will be my last dealing with that dealer for service. I guess i do feel slightly better about paying $6.59/quart for full synthetic but thats still about $3/quart higher than it should be anywhere in the world....and to put the wrong viscosity in without saying something to anyone is again unbelievable. I guess they figure that most people will never know the difference. The price per quart is only about $3 less than I pay for Castrol TWS 10W-60 which is made in damn germany specifically for racing porsches and bmw's.. I should have just given the dealer the 2 quarts of that I had laying around to throw in there...would have saved me 12 bucks!
The only upside is that they did adjust my tire pressures to 34psi...when i did it last time the tires must have had some latent heat in them and as such read higher than they really were.
