1st round negotiations were a bust

Well, I went to try any buy a 2012 TE w/KDSS in mag gray. No other options and couldn't get the numbers I wanted.

OTD, I was at $38300 , they wouldn't budge from $39650 (their opening offer). They wouldn't even discuss giving me a deal on any add-ons (window tint, extended warranty, cargo nets, floor mats etc.) to sweeten the deal. :sobbing:

So much for Larry Miller Toyota in Boulder and on to another dealer that will deal.

Grantk 1, dealer 0. Good for you for not caving in. No doubt another dealer who understands how to negotiate will earn your business.

Come to Jersey. They're sitting on lots and you can get one for invoice or less. Guaranteed.

Yeah trying to wheel and deal on a TE in Colorado in the middle of winter (even if the snow sucks) is probably not the easiest task....

Might have to travel to make the deal. I know the stealers we going gang busters right before the new year.

Try to track down some new 2011's still hanging around.

Stu

Dealer was being greedy. Good on you for walking. FWIW my TE was 37.5 OTD with 100,000/10 year warrenty. So, there is a little wiggle room for negotiations once you find a place that is willing to work with you.

OTD with all taxes, or are you guys in sales tax free states? Invoice is around $36,500 if I remember correctly, and with taxes being probably another 2 grand then $37,500 out the door would be a crazy good deal for sure.

I'm negotiating on a 2011 right now and Toyota isn't offering any incentive on it that I can find other than the stupid $349 lease deal. Sorry... I'm not leasing EVER, and I'm certainly not leasing a vehicle that's been sitting on your lot for a year.

I am ready to pay cash... but the dealers are jerking me around, and I'm the kind of guy that says "Give me a price, make it work, I'll bring you a cashier's check." :)

The problem is they do not want you to pay cash, they also want to loan you the money.

The price in my original post includes dealer doc fees (which are negotiable) and sales tax. Without tax, including doc fees, I started at $36000, dealer was at $37800. I countered with $36500 and they refused to counter or discuss discounts on accessories, etc.

CarPrices.com shows wholesale as $36183, which is still above real dealer cost. TRUEcar.com shows Invoice as $37035.

I was looking at a couple of place in Colorado for a TE before I found one closer to me in Dallas. The LHM Toyota in Colorado Springs has a couple of 2011's sitting there still. A red one and a black one. Didn't even get to discussing price because they didn't give me even a reasonable trade in for my car.

I saw a couple of 2011 TE's being advertised for $35.9k as a no haggle price at Mountain States Toyota. But those sold.

Good luck! I'm sure you won't have problems finding a TE in Colorado. There are plenty of them there.

For one with kdss and nav? What dealer and salesmen ?

Good for you I'm not sure exactly what options it had but that price was a little steep for sure. Just for a reference I got my 2011 TE mag grey with 5200 miles on it (demo) for $30,000 out the door and that was with toyota giving an extra $1000 of for being active duty military. Might not be the best but hope it helps.

I just pulled the trigger on a 2011 TE with Nav & JBL/ KDSS and running boards. Got to 38,846 OTD. Couldn't find anywhere that would deal for a 2012. I don't need Entune anyways. That's what droid phones are for :)
Atleast, I feel that this is a good deal. Please don't tell me otherwise or I'm liable to cry for awhile. :p

GrantK - Tried working a deal on an SR5 at LHM in boulder as well. Good service/bad price. Might consider Stevinson West. BTW they have a used 2011 TE on the lot with under 8,500 miles.

Don't say that.

Don't tell them you are going to pay cash until after you have agreed on a price. They make a pile of money selling people over-priced financing, so the f and i guy will be crying when you tell him you are paying cash.

The salesman will ask you early on whether you will be financing. Just tell him "let's agree on a price first, then we can talk about financing."

Or if they try to sell you by quoting monthly payments, just ask how much is that for the car? They will probably just switch to quoting the car's price and stop quoting payments.

Also, don't tell them if you live in a lower tax area, they use that to jack up the price 'cause you're saving on taxes.

Bottom line, don't tell the sales or finance vultures anything they don't absolutely need to know, they have a way to use everything against you in negotiations.
