2.5 Ton Jack Enough?

Previous car was a small hatchback so the 2.5 ton jack and 2 ton jack stands were enough.
I do my own maintenance and wondering if the jack and stands are enough for my 5th Gen SR5 4X4 when time comes for tire rotation.
I know the 4runner weighs about 4600lbs but obviously I will not be jacking up the whole truck.
Thanks.

The jack is probably fine... I use a 3 ton Omega jack and it feels like enough jack.

The jack stands on the other hand I would upgrade. I had 3 ton jack stands and they feel undersized.

I upgraded to larger 6 ton and taller jack stands for piece of mind.

I agree. I bought a 2.5 jack for my 07 Civic, but it is puny for my 4th gen. I did use it once to remove a wheel once and was sweating the whole time. Never again. In theory probably ok for that, but not worth worrying about it.

Upgrade if you can!

My 2.5t has been fine for the last 10+ years...and I am over 5k lbs. now.

Just make sure it has oil in it.

Proper jack stands and jack are cheaper than an ER visit. I'd go minimum 4Ton.

I use 6Ton jackstands. I think the floor jack is 4ton? I also have a 40ton bottle jack I use.

I have no problems using my 2.5 ton jack and 3 ton jack stands. The problem is the max height of said jack and stands depending on the job at hand. Have some extra blocks laying around.

Thanks guys. Definitely going to upgrade the stands up to 6 ton. Besides they're not that expensive.
Thanks again.

a 2.5 ton jack is plenty, but it will take less effort to lift with a larger jack. The real thing you need is enough lift that you may not have with the 2.5 ton unless it's a SUV type jack.

As others stated, the larger jack stands also are taller which suits a 4 Runner just fine. Can't really have too big a jack stand.

You answered your own question with the last sentence.

The only advantage to a higher capacity jack or stand is the increased height.
