2" BL + 3" suspension + stock wheel = biggest tire?

Looks like i will be skipping buying new wheels for my truck for now but I do need new tires so basically whats the biggest wheel i can stuff under there with minor rubbing. I won't be doing any crazy off roading since I live in NY and we don't got the nice scenery of out west. So what tire can i put on here? I like the look of the truck below on the left and i still can't believe he shoved that big of a tire on stock wheels without some issues.

I know this subject gets brought up every week but there is usually a variation from my exact question. Also what is the stock wheel width i can't even find that info for some reason.

I am still working on my rig, but the parts car I bought had a 3" lift and 2" BL and it is running 35" BFG's (they measure a true 34") I have put the 3" lift and the 35's fit with just the 3" lift and a small trim job on the rear of the front fenders. They still rub slightly at full lock, so I will be putting the 2" body lift on and it should take care of that.
 
Well for instance those tires terra grapplers in a 35" would have to be a 315/75R16 with a minimum wheel width of 8". Those tires width are huge, fitting them without rubbing with normal driving seems like it wouldn't be possible on the stock wheels. What are the bfg's specs? Maybe i am just off base with this?

Tires i really want are the wrangler duratracs and for 285/75R16 equals a 32.8" tall tire. But if i can fit a bigger tire why not :)

Factory rim width is more then likely 7" or 7.5" Way to find out is take a wheel off and look on hte inside you will see a stamp the says something like 16jj7 or 16jj7.5 the first two digits are diameter 16" and the last number or numbers is the width. Some even have another stamp that says 16x7 or 16x7.5 if you like the so called Pizza cutters then 255/85 normally run closer to a 34" then a 33 even though it is called a 33" equivalant. hope this helps. With that lift running a 35 is no problem and there are people running 35x12.50 on stock rims even though spec says needs min of 8" rim
 
One of the enemies of larger size

I believe it is generally agreed that if you go larger than 33"s that you are just inviting future suspension troubles.

Think unsprung weight for one thing-the weight of a 35" tire and rim to fit is going to be substantially higher than stock set up.

This in turn will lead to ball joint-tie rod-steering rack issues.

Go large and in turn it will cost you eventually.

Yes there are people running 35"s....
 
The 35's I have are of the 15" variety with aftermarket wheels. Also, there are 1" spacers on the front. As far as the 35" tire stressing everything more, I am sure this is true, but most people who worry about that are the ones that DON'T have a 35" tire. How do you really know how the 35 performs unless you go for it? It would really suck to buy 33's and then wish you had 35's.

I have 33's and find them to look just right on my rig.....but my rims have a 4.5 inch offset which makes them stick out a little. I've seen 35's on a 4Runner that looked almost exactly like mine, (minus the chrome steps, lightcovers and lightbar), and it looked AWESOME!

I don't know about whether or not the bigger tires would affect the suspension, but I have noticed that my truck has a little less get-up-and-go. To me, it's a small price to pay for it looking sooo good!
 
Tires

Most big name tire shops will not put a 315/75 (~35") tire on a stock 4runner rim (all that I've seen are 16x7"). If you go to Goodyear, BFG, etc. websites and you look at the tires in the 315/75 dimension they say the minimum width of the rim should be 8". Click here and then click "View Tire Sizes..." at the bottom of the page. For that reason many of the big name tire shops will not take on the liability of putting a 315/75 on a rim of less than 8". On the other hand, there are many smaller shops (or big shops that don't care about the manufacturer's suggestions) that will put the 315/75 on the stock 4runner rim. Some of the big name shops won't even put on a 285/75 on a stock rim since they say the minumum rim width should be 7.5".

I agree that putting the biggest tire under the truck usually looks good, but as mentioned above you'll need to seriously think about changing your stock gearing if you go above a 285/75 (~33") tire.

You can see what 285/75s on aftermarket 16x8 wheels (with 4.5" backspacing) look like on my truck if you click the "pictures" link on my signature. I bought my tires and wheels at Discount Tire (aka American Tire in some states).

I haven't had my 4runner long, but find that is has a ton of get up and go with the stock gearing and 35's. I thought I would have to regear for sure, but it drives great!! I will eventually go 4:88's, but there is no rush as the performance is still good.

what do you have in there now? 4.10's? stock gears on the runners are not always the same.
 
Inside the driver side door opening on the body is a sticker. It is, I believe, 4 numbers and 1 letter that will tell you what it is. I think it is 4x4wire that has the codes listed.
