Inner cv axle won't go in all the way. Any ideas? I beat the crap out of it trying to get it to go in

I'll try without the clip. It's from auto zone. BTW it's a 1996 limited 3.4

I'd also swap sides on the axles to see if it might be an axle issue or something in the diff.

LEAVE THE DUST CAP.
That clip needs to be in there..

when you got it from auto zone did it already come attached or did you move it over from your stock ones?
Reason, check to see if you put it in backwards..

if its on correctly, just know the axles don't sit flush against the diff..

they stick out like that on my truck and never had any issues.

if its not leaking diff fluid then you should be good to go.

Stops at the same spot with the clip off. I bought a new dust cover with the axle since the old one was pretty beat up. I looked on my buddies 04 Tacoma it has a gap about the same size. My stock ones just sat flush. And if I put a crowbar against it where it's at they pop out pretty easy. Not all the way it's still locked in but moves out pretty easy it seems like

That gap looks to be about the same that my original CVs had, and also my new ones.

Thank you everybody for responding. I live in base housing and the front of my runner has been apart for 2 days now. ill button it all back together tomorrow was just worried the dust cover can just come off the rubber seal on the diff.

Yeah all the stuff i was reading made me sound like a sissy. i got a bigger sledg and thats as far as i cant get that bad boy in there. i was almost not going to post due to the fact that all the write ups said swing harder with bigger hammer. just no luck for me

no lie, i was told over and over at auto zone and stealership there shouldn't be a gap. thats why i didn't put it back together and decided to post some pics here. the auto zone guy told me there was no way i took the cv axle out without taking the clip off first.
