2 Dealers say Valve Adjustment not necessary?

I finally narrowed down my slight tick at idle to valve noise on the driver side rear of the motor. this is on a 97 v6 t4r. I called around today to inquire about a valve adjustment, both dealerships said it is not necessary on our motors? Has anyone heard of this?! Thanks.

Our valves need to be adjusted. It is a laborious process as it will need to be shimmed.

It will be costly, the timing belt should done because the cams will have to removed to adjusted the valves. The water pump should be replaced because the timing belt is being replaced and etc.

There's actually a trick to adjust them with the cams in. But it's a *****. There's a tool that helps you pop the shim off with the cam in and swap in a new one.

The tick very well could be the result a lifter being out of spec.

I've got the tools to do them, and will still pull cams if there are more than a couple of valves that need shims swapped. Out of all of the Toyota's I've had though I've never needed to do regular valve adjustments on any of them, other than ones with aftermarket parts. I would probably put money on a cracked exhaust manifold or similar small exhaust leak ticking over the valves.

Well im glad to get some input from the experts...thanks guys. I went out today and now im not 100% its valve train noise. It might be coming from the "charcoal canister?". It only clicks after the vehicle warms up. If i shut it down once warm and restart it takes 5-10 to start again. Im going nuts. What else would click by the brake master area?
