2 hole or 4 hole injectors?

I have a misfire on cylinder 6 on my 97 3.4. I have already replaced the coils, wires and plugs. So I am going to replace all 6 injectors since I have 345k miles on it... When looking the injectors up, I am seeing some with 2 holes and some with 4 holes.... What is the difference in mpg, performance if any? I can't seem to find anyone that has asked this question.

I cant answer for Toyota's and I don't know what they use as stock. But for early bmw's the big trick was to switch form 2 pintle (hole) to 4. Better spray pattern, thus better atomization, thus more power better mpg

Going to the Bosch 4 hole injectors was also the ticket for the 4.0 in the jeeps and the mopar/jeep 4.7 V8

My 96 uses the 4 hole/gray ones. Pretty sure in 98 they switched to the brown 2 hole ones. It was either 98 or 99

When I got my jdm motor. It had 2 hole injectors. And it through codes for missfire. Then I replaced them with my old USDM injectors. Which were 4 hole. And it ran perfectly. Not sure about how it will be for others.

I was skeptical at first, worried about throwing codes, but he assured me that they were better injectors. He is a Toyota Master Mechanic, so he knows far better than I do. I've put about 2,000 miles on it and it's has been running great so far. I haven't checked my mpgs yet.

There are 2 types of injectors for these trucks. One are grayish and the other are brown. The brown ones are 2 holes.

I have a set of used OEM brown fuel injectors. The resistance is perfect. No idea how many miles. If you want it. Pm me. **** Bosh. OEM is the way to go.

No, unfortunately I don't know the part number. He just mentioned that they were from an earlier year 5vzfe.

dont recall part # on it. But they are OEM brown ones.

Go on this https://www.mcgeorgetoyota.com I’ve been buying parts from this dealer lately. Best prices personally. Put in your truck info. Get the part # for the fuel injector corresponding to your year. Google it and see if it’s brown or grey.

You want the kind that came with your 4Runner, so match the part #'s.

HOWEVER, on the 3VZ-E & 22-RE engines on the 2nd Gen's, there were Flamethrower injectors make by a Toyota engine builder. He sells them on Ebay: https://www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?_od....m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.X.TRS0&_nkw=&_sacat=0

I don't think he's made them for the newer Toyotas yet though. They were 4 holes and atomized much better, many of us who installed them on the 3VZ-E 3.0 saw better mileage and performance. I didn't see better performance (I had just got my injectors professionally refurbished) but I did see better MPG's.

Think you have it backwards. The grey (96-98) is 4 holes and orange injectors have 2.

I have a 00' 4runner with the brown injectors. Swapped in a grey one from an engine a friend had pulled. (96' or 98') The injector was spraying fuel all over the place. I would buy what came with you engine.

Sounds like you didn't put new o rings on that swapped injector and it got pinched during installation...

Same thing happened with me when I swapped all new injectors in. Didn't replace the seals started it up and literally was puking fuel out the back of the engine.

When you install injectors. They should free be able to rotate inside.

I recently did passenger side injectors(1 3 5)..had a consistent misfire on 5, even having swapping coils, putting in new wires, plugs and new coils.
The oem injectors had 4 holes.
Maybe you have done this before but even before removing the old injectors...clean that area carefully, use compressed air..because there is going to be alot of grime build up at that old injector.
Even after you remove the injector, you will need to clean and prepare it for the new one.
In hindsight, i should have cleaned that plenum and probably done the other side.
My truck runs perfectly now...prior to surgery...it would run on 5 cylinders after 15 minutes. Not sure if this is helpful or not..but I learned something by doing it myself.
