I need help. I programmed the new key exactly to the instruction on here. The key "turned" the engine but didn't start it. On the step 4, the immobilizer light didn't come on. It kept blinking.
4.remove the old key. (immobilizer light should come on(steady on, not blinking))
Do I have to erase the new key and reprogram it again?
I do have the master keys. I am the original owner of the 4runner. I have 2 master keys and one valet key.
The locksmith told me that at the very end of my key (near the chip) has a little "dot". Which mean I can't program the aftermarket key for the car.

It worked....
After many, many tries... Now.. I have to program the remote part.Key and remote are all working now... Thank you to everyone posted on this thread.

guess what I got in the mail today woohooo. will program it tomorrow and try to get it cut during the week.

well I got the remote programmed fine, got it cut at the dealer, Then the guy said, "did you get the chip programmed" I said no, How much will that cost me? He said $70, my reply was, "Why didnt you tell me that first" he walked away.
I really HATE Stevenson toyota....

Ordered mine and received it pretty quick.
Paid $15 for Toyota to cut it from the VIN number and then followed the enclosed instructions for programming. Programmed the FOB first with the written info then used the provided link in the instructions to program the transponder in the key. Worked 1st time. Great product and easy to use.

I was wanting to get mine cut by the dealer via the Vin number but my local Toyota dealer refuses to cut it, they say they will only cut OEM key
blanks because their machine is only setup to cut the type of metal that is in their OEM blanks and they won't cut any blanks if they can't
confirm it's a OEM blank because it may damage their wheel on their key machine!!! :shrug: :shrug:
The key blank isn't made out of titanium or iron or anything close to being that hard and their "wheel" should be able to cut most any metal that
all keys are made of, I'm going to try a couple of other dealers in nearby towns and see what they say before giving in and getting a locksmith
to cut it via my present key, I just want it cut as close to new as possible instead of cutting from a 14 year old key.

Worked the first time

Then brought the keys to the nearest Home Depot. I asked the guy if they cut keys like this... He asked me is that with a transponder? I respond "yeah it's for Toyota." He mentioned that they don't cut that kind of keys because if keys do not work then you would come back and so and so. I told him I'd just want to have the keys cut. I will not make you responsible if the keys will not work. He has a modern key machine with a laser type scanner. He cut the 2-keys for me for FREE! Although I told him I'm willing to pay. He further said "Nope, you brought your own key in... so it's free."
So happy with a big smile and shook his hands with a BIG Thank you words!
Came home and programmed the Keys transponder... Work perfect!!!

I've had mine for well over a year now and it's still going strong on the original battery. Had it cut by the VIN at the local dealer in Edmonds and programmed the chip and fob by my self. Took a couple of tries to get the timing right but got it to work with no issues. The only complaint was that the spring to flip the key out seemed to weaken after a few months but I took the fob apart and wound the spring up another rotation and haven't had any issues since. Well worth the money!

I finally got my key fob today and nobody wanted to cut it, not even the dealership "because it can break their machine" but if I payed $130 for them to program it, they would do it....
Ended up taking it to ACE Hardware and they are wiling to cut it but I need to get the key out of the FOB, I broke the little handle and still couldn't get it out.
did any of you had to get the key out to get it cut? if yes, how did you do it? i don't want to break anything else

The key blade is held with a tiny dowel pin. Flip the blade in a 90 degree position and you ‘ll see it.
lightly hammer it out with a punch or if u don’t have one a finishing nail should work.

I took mine to Home Depot where they have a laser key cutting machine. Tell them all you want is to cut it and don't need to program it. They will cut it for FREE. I didn't have to remove the key from the fob.

The guy at my local Home Depot refused to cut it, I went to a diff one and he also refused. But I drove 20m to a Lowe’s that has a laser cutting machine and they happily did it for Free and now it’s up and running,
Does your security light keep on flashing without stopping? You might have too many keys already stored in memory and will have to wipe them to start fresh.
