2 Issues- cruise light flash and VSC OFF, Slip indication, ABS, and VSC TRAC lights

Good afternoon 4runner folks!
I have 2 issues, not sure if they are connected. I have searched the forum, but it doesn’t seem to quite line up with my issues. The 4Runner has 125000 miles on it, and both issues started about a year about. Nothing had changed on the vehicle for a couple years before these issues started.

Issue #1: Cruise Control flashing
While driving down the road at highway speed with the cruise control on (CRUISE light solid on the dash), and engaged or not engaged (doesn’t seem to matter), the CRUISE light will begin to flash at random times. I haven’t counted how many times it flashes or anything else. I think the cruise will cut out when this happens as well, don’t recall though. I do know that if you turn Cruise off, then back on, the cruise light is solid again and it functions like nothing is wrong.

Issues #2: VSC OFF, Slip indication, ABS, and VSC TRAC lights on when starting car, can’t shift out of Park
Randomly and intermittently, when I start my 4Runner the above lights stay on after starting the vehicle. NOTE: Check engine light does NOT remain on. This also makes it so I can’t shift the car out of Park. Sometimes this will clear if I turn the car off, and back on again.. sometimes I will let me shift out of park, with a little extra push. I haven’t found any reliable series of events that causes this.

Can anyone help me in what I should look at, change, or do with the above 2 issues? Why would they both be so intermittent and inconsistent?

i would have a dealer or any parts store for that matter plug a diagnostic tool in to see if it is throwing any codes. i guess also check all the harness connections and modules for corrosion and or damage. kind of an odd problem, not one ive seen ever.

Definitely a good idea. However, without and of those lights on (Slip, cruise, etc). ..will any codes report from the ECU?
Anyone else ever see anything like this or have other ideas I can look into this weekend?

any code that is generated is stored in memory till it is cleared either by a scan tool or by disconnecting the battery

I know when I had something like that with another vehicle 2010 jeep is was issues with an abs sensor it's a safety thing

The above thread should help you understand what the lights mean; I am not entirely sure if the Cruise Control system will set "P Codes" (generic OBDII powertrain DTCs), but it might. Once you have the DTCs we can see what direction we can direct you in diagnosing and repairing your vehicle.

My 2004 V8 has the cruise light issue you have. Just randomly flashes on and off when cruise is on. Only does it after driving for a little while. No other issues noted with mine. The previous owner (bought new) said it has done it since it was about 3 years old. It never bothered him. Dealer looked at it and could never find anything. They wanted to put a cluster in it to maybe fix it. It doesn't really bother me much. I've checked the IPC connection and all related grounds. Seems to be a lighting issue within the IPC. Maybe one day i'll pull the IPC apart and check the solder joints. My guess that's what it is.

Thanks for the info. Correct, no MIL/Check engine light. Only the others on steady. Haven't found anyone having this issue yet. It seams similar to those that have done lifts and had the ABS/wheel speed sensor wire cut/pulled.

I would check the continuity of both front ABS speed sensor wires. They plug into the back of the hub and then has a connect near the center of the inside fender closer to the engine. I had to take the airbox off to get to the pass side harness. Had to do a Zero point calibration as well after replacing both front wire harnesses.

Random update....
I haven't had a chance to check the ABS or cruise wiring... but the issue has morphed a little. No longer does the chistmas tree of lights remain on after starting... It now will randomly come on while driving down the road (or at a stop light). It doesn't seem to affect driving or anything at this point, and i haven't figured out a normal time frame/speed/accel for this to happen....
Any more thoughts?
