2" vs 3" Lift MPG

I'm running stock height but with 70 series 17" tires (Revos) My dash comp. is very accurate and is in with in a few tenths compared to the odo. readings.

I changed to bigger tire with in 50 miles or so. I cant say anything about the difference with bigger tires. Summer blend fuel city driving 17.3-17.5 mpg. V8 4x4.

No it is not , If I was to accurately add in the add'l miles traveled with the larger tire it would probably bump it up a bit .

Every time I have check my milage it is pretty damn close to what the onboard comp. says , close enough for me to call it accurate in my book.

I always check it manually by how many miles traveled and how many gallons put in , then I see what the comp. says as just a comparison for the heck of it to see how close it is .

I notice that when I fill up full my onboard Range says @367 miles. After I drive say 10-15 miles it drops to @325......Is your experience similar and is this normal? I am not on a track during those 10-15 miles either, highway & city mix.....What gives?

I notice that when I fill up full my onboard Range says @367 miles. After I drive say 10-15 miles it drops to @325......Is your experience similar and is this normal? I am not on a track during those 10-15 miles either, highway & city mix.....What gives?

I stopped once and added ~5 gallons and the computer didn't adjust the range at all. It would be interesting to know exactly how it estimates your range.

I'm confused, wouldn't that mean you are getting better mileage with the larger tires?
It would seem that if your computer is accurate w/ larger tires it would have been off with the smaller tires or vice-versa.

Sorry guys I may have explained incorrectly.

Yes with bigger tires you actually travel further than what the odo. says you do. How much I don't know exactly ..... everyone seems to have an opinion from 1%-15% lol. I have checked with my speedo with a radar gun and at 60 mph the gun showed 62.


My comp. seems pretty damn accurate , exact ?? NO but close enough for me to be comfortable and call it good enough.

I do check and see what my milage is at just to keep in check. My on board comp. I usually leave off most of the time . I turn it on to make sure nothing freaky is happening but thats about it. I do check , but it is what it is .... I've got a full time 4x4 V8 6000lb truck , what else can I expect . I happy and I drive what I like .

I would not be concerned about it , sounds normal to me , after fill the comp. recalculates you miles left on the tank everytime you fill or add. It's all an estimate .

I drove with the 3" OME lift and the stock tires for several months and had no change at all in the mpg during that time. However as soon as I put the 275 Cooper STTs on it dropped a consistent 20-30 miles less per tank corrected.

I agree with this statement. I have had the OME lift for a couple tank fulls now and still running the stock 265/65 cross-terrains and see no difference at all in MPGs. I think it has more to do with the height, width, and weight of non-stock tires that affects MPGs.
I am thinking of upgrading to the GY SA in 275/70. These tires weight 53 lbs whereas the stock cross-terrains weight 40 lbs. Definately looking at a decrease in MPGs with the GYs.
So still not sure if I'm going to do it yet.
