20-21 Automatic Engine Shut Off Feature

So, if you sit idling in “P” , with variations, the engine will automatically shut off.
I had this happen 2 times until I found it in the manual.
Trying to find out if this can be deprogrammed….. it probably can’t! ��

i have a 2020 with the ignition key. i don't see that in the manual or maybe i did not read carefully. i have not experienced it since i don't idle my car for 1 hour. why do you have to idle for 1 hour anyway? do you have a push button start?

maybe camping and need the engine running to power the 120v accessories? if that's the case put it in neutral and parking brake on and chock the wheels

It’s the anti-suicide feature. Cuts down on insurance cost.
 
During our ice storm this winter, we were out of power and cable internet for 8 days. Due to the power outage, my area's T-Mobile towers weren't working but the ATT towers were.

So... I eventually figured out I could put the T4R in accessory mode and use the truck's ATT hotspot for cell data. The drawback was that it would only stay on for 20 mins. In [MENTION=103267]Saker[/MENTION]'s post, it looks like I could have turned the ignition to ON and it would have kept my hotspot going for 1 hour.
 
People can do what they want. I'm just trying to think of a reason I'd ever sit in park for an hour, with the engine idling.

So for the people that do so, why do you?

Makes no sense to me. I cannot think of any reason to leave a vehicle running unless I’m in the middle of nowhere and I need to power rescue equipment to save a bunch of campers who are dying, which would never happen.

Completing daily reports.
Eat lunch.
Conference calls. Phone calls.
Sleep in my seat on Monday mornings after I make the 3.5 hour early morning drive to work and get there early.
Cool off.

Week before last we had a high of 115 F and a low of 95 F. Thankfully, we are at the tail end of summer. Not everyone works in doors. Welcome to my world. Also, change the oil every 5000 miles or less.
 
Not a regular thing for me.
At the time I had appts and on the way to work I was 1.5 hrs early so I decided to stop and take advantage of the time, catch up on some calls, research some items within the comfort of my vehicle when this occurred.

So, maybe you never find yourself in need of doing anything other than driving from point A to point B and no spare time. Everyone is not the same.

I didn’t write this for a world debate, I wrote it to inform people of this feature that is not really publicized.
It took me by surprise that it occurred.

I refer to it as a nanny feature.
Maybe it was put in place because people leave the truck running after they get out & that was so it would shut it off because people didn’t remember they left their truck running

Recharging the house battery to keep the fridge going on a hot cloudy day.
