20 inch wheels on LIMITED

I don't know about worsening the nose dive, but it surely has improved it. I don't know why, but I think it is linked to the improved braking and the RD rated tires. Those stupid Bridgestones were SL=Standard Load and the new tires are RD, which under Toyo means Reinforced. I don't understand either why it affected my nose dive, but it did. I still have a dive but it it not as severe as it was and I think it is related to the improved braking due to heavier tires and more traction. Since the vehicle does not seem to struggle to slow down now, it affected the dive I think. This is the nly thing I could think why my nose dive has reduced.

I am not just saying this to say it, it has baffled me too. I am going back to the tire shop Saturday to make sure that nothing is interfering with the suspension, and if there is no sign of anything, then all is good.

The max load rating of the stock tires is 2,150 lbs, versus 2,892 for the new tires. That will make a big difference on how much the front tires squat under the additional dynamic load of braking. So yes, while suspension is probably the larger component impacting nose dive, tires still play a part.

Thanks Proquip for the breakdown. I knew the load was higher on the new tires and was certain it had something to do with the width and the higher load rating of the tires.
 
Loving all the 275/55 tires setup and the oem wheels in here but the 7" width is a bummer. Even my civic is running 9" wide wheels. Either way I'll still plan to run this tire setup and change out the wheels sometime in the near future. Now, just need to decide which tires.

Those tires fit a rim width of 7.5 to 9.50. If you have stock LE wheels then you have 7.0 width. See specs on the link below. This has been discussed in other threads. Some ignore the minimum rim width and others switch to a wider wheel. It is your choice but wanted to make sure you are aware of it.

Yes it has been discussed and I am seeing all kinds of opinions about the manufacturer spec sheet saying 7.5 and others reading it right on the rim. I've been reading threads til my eyes hurt. I trust the guys at 4 Wheel Parts and they have done a lot of work for me before.

FIFY. It's definitely without any doubt or discussion 7". Having said that, I've researched and talked to my local tire contacts and only one of them said that they wouldn't mount a 275 on my stock 20's. We're big boys and girls and as long as you know the possible issues you get to make the call. I'm putting Cooper 275/55/20 A/TPs on my stock wheels and will likely run with scissors that same evening.

LOL. Thanks for the vote of confidence. Set aside them being so damn skinny I really like those 20" rims. With all that has been posted I didn't find anyone that had an issue.

So I decided to ask General Tire directly about the change in recommended wheel widths for the 275/55R20 size for the Grabber UHP. They basically responded saying that the 7" recommendation was a typo.

They also included in the response that proper inflation will likely cause premature center wear and that under-inflation to balance the wear is a safety risk. Needless to say, I have contacted them back on this as those don't seem to be acceptable outcomes for a tire I was led to believe would actually fit.

The kicker is that the final 2 tires at this size that appear to be listed for a 7" wheel width (Grabber HTS and Continental CrossContact LX) are both under the Continental brand. This likely means that those being listed as compatible with 7" wheels is also inaccurate, which would leave 0 options in the 275/55 range for the OEM wheel...
 
so i have been running my Geolanders for about 60k now and its about that time to change them.

how are your various 275/55/20's tires holding out on your stock limited wheels?
any suggestions/recommendations for an ALL SEASSON tires?
 
Try the continental lx20 sl load, they run a tad smaller then the xl load. But I don't have it mounted on my stock so whose knows.
 
Follow up

So 79,000 on 2 sets of duellers, and I am done. I am worried about the wider tires so after reading lots and lots of forum messages, has anyone had any trouble with a 275/55/20? And if so, what are they? I am looking for something comparable to the stock tire as far as tread goes. Don't need anything too aggressive. Just looking for advice.

My 275/55/20 Nitto TGs have held up great. I've got about 10k on them, and I am very satisfied.

They have also helped prevent the better half from accruing curb rash.

i went and got the GY LS2

You should be fine. That's the size many websites recommend when going with aftermarket wheels. I have -12 offset so it rubs a little only in reverse and wheel turned to the right. Not a big deal if you have to make some small modifications to wheel well. There's a thread on that
