Since we are talking about full time 4WD LEs here, what is everyone doing regarding their spares?? How much overall size difference is too much before stuff starts breaking? I've read in several places that there is a 3% size tolerance, but can anyone confirm that?
Just as an example, if my math is correct, a stock 245/60/20 spare measures 31.6" diameter (circumference 99.1") while a 275/55/20 measures 31.9" diameter (circumference 100.1"). This sounds like a small difference, but it basically means that the stock 245 spare would spin an extra 7 times every mile relative to the 275s. I'm not talking about keeping it on permanently. Just as an emergency drive to a tire shop. Similar rotation variations could be a result of PSI differences, temperature variations per tire, tread wear or driving in circles (if you like to do that for some reason). So I'm leaning towards this small variance being OK. Thoughts?

Technically, yes. But when I did it stuck down a least 5 inches further. Looked horrible and not safe IMO.

ya... 275 vs a 245 is over an inch... But Toyota has the same body/frame for Sr5/Trail/limited/TRD Pro... The spare wheel area is the same size for all trim levels.
It will be perfectly safe to put a 275 on the spare wheel. Providing you get the correct aspect ratio 275 so the overall diameter is not that far off from stock... else it won't fit diameter wise.

I had Michelin 275/55/20 ms2 on my Limited and the spare fit up just fine.

Mine looked stupid. You can see what I had in signature. I had them take off and put craptastic 245 back spare.

Mine didn't look that bad, it was about 1.2" lower than the 245 and pretty similar to stock 265/70/17. I was going to do a 5 wheel rotation, not realizing that Toyota painted the spare rim bright yellow.:ybrick: I got rid of the 20' anyway and put Konig Six Shooters and 265/70/17 AT3's.

I have the 275/55/20's on all my new rims and the spare looks fine. I took it down recently to air it and clean the rim and there was no issues getting it back up in the spare holder. Fit like a glove.

Has anyone tried and have comments on the newish Cooper Discoverer SRX in 245/60R20 ?
I would like to stick with the OEM size (I know people have gone larger but none of them are recommended for 7.0" wheels by the manufacturers AFAIK), sounds like the options are pretty limited.

Just buy new wheels. Much better than F-ing around with this stupid Limited wheels. Still a bit salty with Toyota over that one.

I've thought about that but I like the limited wheels. I thought about the '14 Trail wheels which I really like, but my gf doesn't like them as much and she is the one who drives the 4runner most of the time now.
4th Gen LE wheels? They are 18" x 7.5 so a nice compromise between the TE wheels and the pizza cutters. I just bought a set, so I'll post some pics once they're installed.

I'm very close to pulling the trigger on 275/55/20 tires for my '12 Limited on the stock wheels. I like the look of the stock wheels so I'm not interested in new wheels (or the associated expense). At 45,000 miles my Geolanders have at least 10,000 miles left in them, but I just can't stand the horrible skinny tires look anymore!
I'm curious, now that some more time has passed since people first started putting non-spec tires on their Runners, has anyone had any issues yet? Uneven wear or any other problems?
Also being that this thread is discussing the LE model specifically, everyone should have the XREAS suspension standard. Any issues with the XREAS failing early? I wonder about the larger, heavier tires possibly being an issue. A long story for another thread, but half my XREAS went out at only 43k miles, due to a bad shock. They had to replace 2 shocks and the central absorber unit. I got extremely lucky and Toyota covered it as "goodwill" even though I was out of warranty. Over $3000 repair! I'll go with the Bilstien 5100s and new springs the next time my XREAS fails, just that I'd like to get at least a couple more years out of it if possible.
Any my final question, and I apologize this is getting so long. I am considering this tire: Nexen Roadian A/T Pro RA8 - Free Delivery Available | TireBuyer.com (Nexan Roadian A/T Pro RA8 in 275/55/20) Looks to be a lot of tire for the money. Does anyone have any experience with, or opinions about this brand? I've heard some people say they are junk even though they have no experience with them. Still others say the manufacturer makes great tires, and some people just think they are junk because they are Korean and/or because they come on some cheaper new cars. For about $700 mounted and out the door, that sounds pretty decent for an A/T tire with 50k warranty.
