I made $100 net from selling my 20" wheels for the SR5's I picked up off CL, so to me it's entirely for looks when people buy the new wheels, not specs.

Not sure what exactly to do here. I'd love the 275/55R20s, but I keep getting told that they are too big. Found a dealer who wants me to put on the new Nitto G2s, but in a 265/50R20 size (wider but shorter). They seem too short according every tire calculator I can find. I know there are new, but I haven't heard of this size being used before. Has anyone else?

Those are nice wheels...wish I would have seen those before I bought the KMC Skitch, but that's been since 2011. Nice job on your rig...:cheers:
I've got a 2011 LTD, with 20x9 KMC Chrome Wheels, and 275/55 GY Eagle LS2's, for 52k miles now and not one issue. Do you still have the original 20" LTD wheels? I believe they are 20x7?
Yes, still running the original 20x7 rims. I suspect I'm in the same boat as many and even my local Toyota dealership acknowledged the problem. My original Yoko's stunk and I thought I could replace them with some solid A/T tires, but not quite. The Nitto G2's seem perfect for my use, but the sizes are a bit off.

Just buy the 275/55R20s, find a reputable independent shop, and tell them to install and balance. Then sell your old tires online. Ends up costing you only a few hundred for a priceless improvement.

No doubt the 20x7's are the problem. Some shops just won't' take the chance of libeling themselves by putting the fatter tire on. Walmart did me that probably 5 years ago with tires I wanted on my Camry, they were different from Toyota "specs" on the door, so they wouldn't do it :noidea:.
Nitto G2s are nice, and they may be my next tires.

Just go to another shop with the wheels and tires, get them installed and stop telling them about the 7'' rim. They 95%+ sure won't even notice.

I broke down and bought the Nitto Terra Grappler G2s 265/50R20s. I love the look of the 275s, but didn't want to go that far off of the specs (probably worried for nothing). A couple of places offered to put them on, but strongly advised against it and suggested the 265s.
The 265s are an inch shorter than the Yokos I took off, but I can't see the difference. The diameter difference is outside of the +/-3% recommendation, which has me concerned a bit. If anyone with expertise can speak to that, I'd appreciate it.

In the case, you would have been better off selling your stock wheels/tires and getting new wheels and tires with the correct spec. Its only set me back ~$250. This way, you get the tires you want and not worry about being out of spec.
I really like the Nittos, but didn't see that size. I'm going to give these a try. We're supposed to get 7-10" of snow today, so I should have a chance to test them a bit.
If they don't work out and I sell them, any suggestions on a decent rim? I don't need anything high end. I drive mostly on highways/city roads with some off-roading. Once a year we go to NC and will need to drive on the beach.
Balancing 27/55/20
Hey guys, just put on new toyo open country at II tires. Can't believe how well they hold the road compared to stock. Just noticed a slight vibration about 50 mph or 80km. Under 50 smooth as silk. Anyone else notice this or is it balancing issue. I wasn't sure if it's because being an all terrain tire.

So I have 275/65 20 Duratracs on my stock Limited wheels. I just got my Shrockworks rear bumper installed and it has a spare tire carrier. So I bought a spare Limited rim and took it into Discount Tire to get a 5th DuraTrac. The guy wouldn't mount the tire, because he said it doesn't fit the rim. I told him that Discount mounted the others. After checking the computer, he agreed that I was correct, but still refused to mount it. So I said fine, Ill just buy the tire unmounted. He refused to sell it because he said that I was going to mount it on the factory rim and he couldn't let me do that. I found it ironic that he was going so far out of his way to block me from doing what Discount had already done. I get that he didn't want to mount the new tire once he pointed out that his specs dictated that he not do it, but refusing to sell me the tire unmounted????

asleep at the wheel. been awhile since I checked in. No rubbing till I got in a fender bender last week. didn't look like any damage but there must be a little push back since there is a new rub when I back out with the wheel turned over to the right. Oh well. Maybe time to rip it off for an offroad bumper guard. Suggestions?

Anybody in Southern California know of a shop to install "out of spec" tires?
So I installed some 275/55/20 Nitto Terra Grappler G2s on my 2014 Limited Last month. What a huge difference in ride quality! The truck feels much more "planted" to the road. Only had rubbing issues on the driver side wheel well which was fixed by pushing it forward, and it only rubbed in reverse with the wheel turned to the left.
I had Kal Tire install them and they didn't even say anything about the 7" rim. I have over 5000km on them so far and have had the truck off road in both sand and rocks with no issues.
For those like me who sat on the fence trying to decide what size tire to go to, just do it! You won't be disappointed. I personally really like the look of the 20" limited rims which is why I didn't want to get rid of them. If I plan on doing more extensive off road trips I have a set of 265/70/17 Duratracs I throw on.
Hope someone finds this helpful. I know this forum definetly helped me make my decision.

Cooper Discoverer AT/W 275/55/R20
Its basically the AT/3 but with a softer tread for winter. Still good for 50,000 miles or 80,000 km.
I purchased them from Cdn Tire for a good price since they were on sale but had to install them elsewhere.
I've only driven home on them and they definitely feel different, not sure in which way. I plan to do some excessive driving this weekend and will update you guys later. So far so good, I'll post some pics after a car wash.
