I test drove a 2019 TRDP before ultimately buying a 2020 AG TRDP. As other people have already mentioned, there’s definitely a drone especially at highway speeds. Honestly, it doesn’t really bother me since I feel like it gives the car some character but I can see it being an annoyance to others.
Has anyone swapped it out for anything else that they are happy with yet? Does this exhaust have any performance improvement over the exhaust on the other 4R models? Got a quote from a local Toyota-focused off-road shop, $440 for a quieter replacement but they cut what's there so I can't resell to try to offset the cost.
I’m interested in this as well. I haven’t looked yet but was hoping DIY by simply bolting something else on?

Liked in on my 19 and still like it more on my 20 pro. They have to sub these out. Everyone cries about how loud it is till it breaks in. My 19 got quieter after a few days. My 20? right out the box with 2 miles on the odometer makes less noise than the one on my 19 did.
For those that say it sounds like ass, checkout magna flow or Gibson. I know 2 guys new that junked there's to but the trd after they heard mine

I'm curious as to what in an exhaust system could be "breaking in" to get quieter.....there is no mechanical component that could do that unless Toyota has done something really weird.
IME anything with the fibreglass packing gets louder over time, not quieter...
I'm glad my 19 TRDORP is quiet- I don't much like loud.

About 400 miles in on the exhaust now, I don't even really notice it anymore unless I get on it.
Have petalcommander as well in Sport+1 so I am hitting higher revs than a stock setup.
Just give it some time and you won't even notice it after the break in period.

I called Borla because I wanted the Touring but they told me that on a Pro only the S would fit due to the brackets or something. Didn't make sense to me but I am not a mechanic and I didn't want to buy the Touring and then not have it fit. I will get it fixed one day.

The tailpipe will not bolt up. The TRD muffler has three bolts connecting the tail pipe to the muffler, the regular 4runner muffler has two bolts connecting the muffler to the tail pipe. It would have been nice if Toyota made the parts interchangeable. I would like the TRD muffler with the rear exit exhaust. It can't happen because of the way Toyota made the TRD muffler tailpipe connection.
Adding...... A 2020 TRD Pro exhaust can be swapped out, from the cat back, including the tailpipe that goes straight back.

Maybe I’m missing something, but I bought this exhaust to put on my 19.
Unbolted old one... bolted up this one. Fit perfectly. No modifications to flanges, etc. I see zero reason why someone couldn’t take a stock exhaust (from a 19 at least) and bolt it on a 20. Also can’t imagine a difference between a 19 exhaust and other fifth gens. But have no specific knowledge of that. Only that there are zero issues with a 19 fitting.
Also, doesn’t sound bad to me at all. I actually really like it. Different strokes. Have about 4,000 mi on it. (I drive a lot). Definitely seemed to smooth and mellow out. Either that or I’m used to it. Seems quieter.

What I had gathered, someone was looking at the potential of bolting the non-TRD muffler-back to the TRD muffler because they were looking at a rear exit with the TRD muffler characteristics. This is where they highlighted the difference in flanges to make this work.

I just swapped my stock TRDP exhaust with a standard exhaust from a forum member here. No issues with the swap as long as you swap the full exhaust from the muffler back. As stated above, the standard exhaust flange bolts to the tail section using 2 bolts. And the TRDP exhaust bolts to tail section using 3 bolts.

That’s what i was asking if you do the whole exhaust swap I did not think it would be a problem. Because if the TRD exhaust gets to be annoying then you can just swap it out like you did. Thanks for confirming that!! Also did you have any issues coming out where the tail pipe ends. Does it come straight out the back like the old Pro exhaust? Thanks

No problems at all. All of the hangers for both exhausts are the same. You just need to take off the right rear wheel/tire and then make sure you get it jacked up high enough that you can rotate it out and over the axle. Theres also a small heat shield that shields heat from the spare tire that comes off with two 12mm bolts.
I thought we were gonna have to drop the spare but we were able to get it out without doing that. We probably had both exhausts off and reinstalled in like an hour or so.

So I take it the TRD exhaust got to you. You did not like it. You don’t have many miles on your Pro correct. I’m picking mine up tomorrow. :cheers:
