2000 4runner 5spd squealing off the line?

You should only be able to press each belt down at it's longest point by about 1/2" or less.

Sometimes the belts need to be tighter than you think. If it sounds like a belt it most likely is.

But:

I have heard worn clutches make a similar squeal when worn to the rivets, it's the brass rivets running on the steel of the flywheel/pressure plate.

I'd be pretty pissed if the clutch actually wore out that fast. If the soap doesn't stop the noise I'll be giving them a call to see what's up with that

If you want to rule out the clutch take all the belts off and drive it a few feet. Might be a bad idler or alternator.

I'll rule that out by doing the soap method rather than that work just to put them back on...besides I'm not gonna drive my truck without any belts on

It's actually not a bad idea at all, but if you are not particularly handy then you might want to take it in.

Running a short distance with no belts isn't going to hurt anything.

I would myself be more inclined to tension the belts more - but again, if it isn't something you are familiar with then take it in somewhere.

Did you replace your throw out bearing with the clutch? Cuz I replaced everything except the slave cylinder

It usually was from an old TOB. In the case of my DSM, I ended up having to swap transmissions because it fused the input shaft to the case from the heat/friction. On the subaru's you have to swap it out. Some companies made an input shaft sleeve because with that scenario the TOB eats away at the shaft and then a new one doesn't fit because the tolerances are too wide, causing issues. Worst case scenario I know... Does the sound change pitch if you rev the motor up with the clutch in? Usually my TOB squeels have been higher pitched than yours, but I'm not as familiar with T4R's as I am with subarus and DSMs.

Anyways start with the easy stuff, tighten the belts and see if it gets better at all or changes. An idler pulley wouldn't make noise only when you push in the clutch. If the belts aren't the issue, I'd take it back to your mechanic friend (who did the work?) and tell them you are having issues, and think something is wrong with the clutch.

Mine came with a new throw out bearing.

I did the soap test today and its still making the same sound. I rolled the window down and stuck my head out of the car while taking off....sounds like its more coming from the clutch/tranny area. Could a bearing wear out that quickly? That's ridiculous if so. I am going to call Eclutchmasters on Monday to see what they can do otherwise I probably need to take to a shop to diagnose as I have my bachelor party camping trip coming up at the end of May and this thing needs to ready to go not just with the goodies but mechanically sound as well. This is starting to piss me off a bit, brand new clutch job and it's already crap....will have to take the plunge on the Marlin one if it is!

I am also calling my mechanic buddy to have him take the first look as he is free and a shop isn't lol.

Thanks for all your help those guys!

True that. A bad idler will make a sporadic chirping or squealing noise and can be a bear to track down also.

They will usually act up when cold, but never, ever when you have the hood open and are staring at them.

Don't get frustrated, that never solves anything. Slow down and think simple first. That's what I do. The answer is usually right in front of you. Sometimes the obvious is not so obvious. ;-)
