2000 4runner 5speed opinion

Dealership experience

GRRR! I need to share my recent experience attempting to purchase a 99 5speed 4runner 4x4. Found a truck with 130k miles on Autotrader at Concord Toyota in the Bay area. Since I live in SoCal I thought I'd fly up over the weekend and buy it. The price was under $7,000. So I emailed the internet sales guy Rolando to give me information on timing belt, water pump, clutch and rust. And to send me pictures since there weren't any. He replied without answeing any of my questions stating that the truck was in detail. I emailed him later asking for pics, no response so I contacted another sales rep Juliana, she said she'd let me know when she found out more about the truck. Next mornig I got two exterior photos of the truck (looked clean), but no answer to my questions. I told the guy I would pay for the truck without driving it if he answered those 5 basic questions about the truck. He answered with : "the truck is getting smogged". I emailed him one more time, to which he told me he was too busy to deal with me. So I emailed the sales manager complaining, but never got a response. All weekend long they kept telling me that the truck was not yet available for sale but would be ready the following day. This moring they let me know that it was no longer available!!!! I'm so frustrated. My unicorn sure is pretty ellusive. lol

I have a 97 5 speed with the e-locker and a 96 Limited. The 5 speed is geared way lower than the Limited (auto transmission) - 2400 rpm at 100 km/h vs 2000 rpm. Overall it is way peppier, likely due to the low gearing.

Pros:

- Put on bigger tires and still be geared lower (read have more power) than the auto with stock tires
- always have power off road as you have 5 gears spanning a narrower overall gear ratio, instead of 4.

Cons:
- lower top speed on the highway, which can also be a pro as it reduces the chance of getting ticketed for excessive speed.
