Hello,

I am having a problem with my 2000 4Runner Factory Alarm. When I push the red button under the steering column to enable the alarm, the horn starts making low volume beeping noise. But when I push the red button again to disable the alarm, the noise goes away and I can use everything else like locking my doors and using the panic on my remote but the alarm is not on. Also, when I used to lock my doors with my remote, the headlights used to stay on for like 5 seconds but they don't any more.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Um.... the factory alarm DOES NOT have a red button under the steering column. It sounds like you have an aftermarket non-OEM alarm. Search the forums. There has been considerable discussion about the two factory alarm options, how they work, how they're wired, and how to identify them.

Also, the standard mode of operation for the headlights is to remain on for 30 seconds. This can be programmed to 0,30,60,90,120 seconds using the OEM OBDII scan tool. It cannot be programmed to 5 seconds so it sounds like your alarm is controlling or interferring with this function. You can also search the forums to find numerous posts on the auto/off headlight function.

My 4runner came delivered with a dealer installed alarm as well. It caused several problems with the automated light control system. I ripped the POS out in the first week I owned the truck and gave it back to the dealer. Since then I added the Toyota VIP RS3200+ and now everthing works like it should.

Well, it is a factory alarm Toyota VIP RS3200. The red light is on the left hand side of the steering wheel column. When I push it in to enable the alarm or in other words to take it out of the valet mode, my horn beeps in a low volume and the alarm doesn't arm itself when I try to arm it using my remote. But when I push the red button again to disable the alarm, I can use my remote to perform other operations like lock/unlock doors and use the panic button. Also, my doors won't lock/unlock automatically when key is turned ON or OFF in the ignition. I am still researching the forums to see if I can find anything. Thanks for your help.
