2000 4Runner cat-back compared to 2000 Tacoma Prerunner

I'm looking for a cat-back exhaust system for my 2000 Toyota 4Runner 2.7L. I would like to buy from flowmaster, however they do not sell a 4Runner specific cat-back for my year. They do have one for a 2000 Tacoma Prerunner, same engine 2.7L. Are the two exhaust systems the same or not. Im thinking of just buying the one for the Prerunner and installing it but I want to be sure that it is the same. Thanks

if you know the one you're after, just get the muffler and chop/weld it in

It's not. Suspensions are completely different as well as the length.

What I would suggest is to make your own catback. You need a stick of 2.5" exhaust tubing (10 ft is in a stick for exhaust I believe) Flowmaster of your choice, high flow cat (lc engineering), bung for 02 sensor (I got mine at lc engineering), and a muffler shop that knows what they are doing.

This is what I did back in 2011 when I tossed in lc headers, MagnaFlow exhaust and cat, and went to a 2.5" dia. pipe. Sounds like a dream. I did all of the straight pipe work and the muffler shop charged me 60 to go up and over the axle. I would imagine that they would charge a solid 200-300 to do all the work for you. It will be about 2-3 hours of labor.

Schedule 40 Kryptoroxx? How about 2.5" exhaust tubing?

Sch. 40 in 2.5" has a 0.20" wall thickness. It's far from ideal for exhaust work.

Might have gotten that bit wrong lol. it has been a few years. I used a heavier gauge tubing as I expected to clang it around a few times while off-road.

Did a little reading and I should have referenced tubing rather than pipe. Thanks for pointing that out. I did think the schedule 40, 80 etc was how they rated exhaust tubing though.

So all I need to do is buy the exhaust piping, the catalytic converter and the sensor and take it to a shop to get it installed?

You could skip the exhaust piping. The muffler shop will have that. I would talk to a shop first just to see what it will run you and shop around for pricing on the labor. But otherwise yeah its that easy.
