2000 limited transfer case question

I have a '00 limited with the vf3am transfer case and it "clicks" underneath the car about a second or two after I actually shift it. The click sounds like an electronic shifter engaging the transfer case via actuator. My question is, does the lever actually shift it or is it shifting it electronically via an actuator?

Could the noise after shifting to 4hi or low be the ADD locking? It just feels like the shifter isn't connected to anything compared to how rough my previous jeep was lol.

shifting is electronically activated by the transfer case lever. yes, it clicks when engaging/disengaging H4L and L4L.

So the actual lever isn't mechanically shifting the transfer case? So it isn't a "manual transfer case". Might as well have a button on the dash.

Going from 4high to natural to 4low is manually shifting the fork. Going from 2wd to 4high by pressing the shifter button is electronically controlled.
Unless you have no button and you have the "j" shift case its manual and the sound you hear is the front end locking into 4wd via your add.

That's what I thought, but aren't the old sequoias controlled by a switch on the dash for all modes including low? They have the same case as 99-00 limited 4runners.

Iv never been in a sequoia so idk, if I had to guess they put servos on the case to eliminate the shifter. But I like my shifter so I'm not complaining.

The first gen Sequoia's had a dash switch to go from 2wd to 4wd, but still had a lever to go into 4 low.
