2001-2002 Front differential actuator question..

I'm a bit confused with the differences between the years with the front differential actuator. I've read quite a few posts about soldering the motor leads and would like to give this a try before replacing it.

My question is, on the 2001-2002 4runners is it possible to remove the actuator assembly without removing the differential?
