I had mine replaced by the dealership about a year ago. You should do the same also, there is no charge for this recall service.

I can't remember if I got any recall service done on my 02, I only remember bringing in my 96 and that was like 8 years ago. I'm sure that my s/dealership has that info. Any improvement in steering feel or suspension tightness when you got it done

Where I work there is a toyota dealership I can ask my service advisor tomorrow if someone can have their ball joints replace even if they have a lift. Will let you know tomorrow but don't think it should be a problem.

I did not notice anything different on the suspension. Basically I took my truck in for an oil change and he told me that he was going to replace the ball joints because there was a recall.....I said cool......no charge right? I guess when they have recalls the service is free.

well yeah recalls have to be free lol. nhtsa considers it unsafe its the manufacturer's responsibility im pretty sure

You can save yourself a potential trip to the dealership and just give them your VIN over the phone. It will say whether yours needs it done or not. Had my 02 replaced at 70k miles. They will also align it for you, too.

how do you go about finding RECALLS?

is there a place that lists all the recalls for a particular year for a vehicle?

I have a 2001 4WD and would like to get this done. Do I have to take it to my local Toyota dealerership? I hate my local dealer!

i would call first and supply your VIN to save a wasted trip....

also make a reservation if you do go in...

just ask if your lower ball joint recall has been previously performed.

they have a record of all "dealership" installed items..

i found out today that my lower ball joint was previously preformed in september of 2005 at the SF dealer... its been 10 years though!! and now with the lift i'd say its time to do it again just for peace of mind.... and safety of course

Thanks for the link. Do you know if when it says 0 open recalls, that strictly means that any recalls didn't apply to my VIN, or is it possible that the recall applied but was already taken care of by a previous owner?

I would like to know this as well.
