2001 4 Runner 2wd SR5 V6 - TRANSMISSION ISSUE

Hello everyone FYI: Im on the west coast

I have a 2001 4 runner sr5 v6 3.4 liter 2wd automatic transmission
165,000 Odometer reading
vehicle condition: very good almost new looking inside and outside :amen:

Issue: Vehicle all of a sudden would not go above 30-40 mph

And now vehicle wont move: Reverse, Drive, L, 1, 2 don't do anything. Its just like your in neutral and revving the engine
The engine sounds good , very good though.

I think its a bad transmission OR How would i know if its the torque converter and not the transmission?

What are your guys suggestions or ideas based on your history with this Toyota vehicle model and type?

Used Japanese Transmission vs wrecking yard ones?

Is this a A340E transmission ?
and does it make sense to upgrade it since i'm redoing the tranny maybe to a newer model?

Anybody now of reputable places to get good rebuilt / used transmissions for this vehicle on line or actual shops? west coast maybe since I live in Sacramento, CA...


Any suggestions on type of transmission such as modifications or upgrades to a replacement transmission?

So you've done the obvious stuff like check the trans fluid level and condition? These are planetary transmissions, not inexpensive to repair/rebuild. Many on here swear by a Toyota dealer rebuild or at least a shop that specializes in Toyos to get the most reliable, least problematic rebuild. I'd do a search in your area, I'm sure there are some. Luck!
