It's too bad all the images are gone in those old threads. ruined is what they are :(

Can somebody help me find the thing so I can disconnect that black w/yellow wire?

I prefer to operate the controls myself. If the car operates the controls, why have them... or a driver, for that matter?

SAFETY.

Who Really know how many countless lives have been saved by the headlights being on WITHOUT the driver turning them on? Hmmmmm.....

Yeah being able to turn them off when hunting or otherwise trying to 'sneak' thru an area with no lights but SAFETY first or is it SAFETY THIRD??? hahah....

:cowboy:

Did you try searching google for it? First link available has a picture of the drl module. https://www.google.com/search?newwindow=1&rlz=1C1QJDB_enUS784US793&sxsrf=ACYBGNQAi0VSt0NyWiWw31RpiIgnx301VQ%3A1571833938541&ei=UkiwXeLAIIr8tAX7waz4Cg&q=site%3Atoyota-4Runner.org%2F3rd-gen-t4rs%2F+drl+module&oq=site%3Atoyota-4Runner.org%2F3rd-gen-t4rs%2F+drl+module&gs_l=psy-ab.3...971.3087..3256...0.0..0.71.593.11......0....1..gws-wiz.2k3dByLYV5Q&ved=0ahUKEwjisbXcsbLlAhUKPq0KHfsgC68Q4dUDCAs&uact=5

The motor for the fresh air door is there.

What does it look like?

Too far to the right, I said slightly right, lol. Google is your friend check Bad Luck's link.
I have done the mod. When cutting wire do it a inch or more back from connector so you have something to work with if you want DRL's later. Cover the cut ends.

The problem is that that picture is for the 2000 and earlier 4Runners. 2001-2002, as the OP's is, doesn't have that box under the bonnet -- instead, you have to snip a black wire with a yellow stripe, located under the steering wheel where one's knee is when sitting. Definitely unfortunate that so many old pics from T4R are gone, I was looking for pics of the '01-'02 DRL myself last night, and it was a challenge finding it, at least on T4R.

OP -- with a 2001, the odds are good you won't have the grey box to the right of the battery underneath the bonnet -- you can look, as maybe the very early 2001 builds had it, but most 2001-2002s do not.

My 01 built 11/00 has it above gas pedal, pretty sure any built as 2k1 model will have it there. If OP looks at search results for 2k1 DRL module pictures are correct.
It's hard to miss module if you have the panel removed. The OP has been given sound advice he has to do his part.

I think what's missing is a photo with a circle around the wire to be clipped or maybe an arrow.

With so many us using limited function cell phones to access the web; they don't have the ability to do a little thing like putting in a circle or an arrow like on computers unless there's some kind of app for that on phones now I'm not aware of.

Another common mistake I see a lot of is people don't really know how to take pictures. Done right there may be up to 3 pictures with one taken far enough back so the viewer can see the bigger area to look at then another pic closer up then a final one close up with a marker to show exactly what it is the viewer should be looking at. Most people don't know enough to do this. The second picture is kinda optional depending on the complexity of the area. Under the dash is fairly complex.

Hopefully no one gets their shorts in a bunch over this bit of criticism. It's not directed any any one person at all.

I just unplug the resistor hidden under the drive fender by the battery, there is a plug that goes though the large hole into the space under the fender, unplug said resister and no more auto lights...

clearock -- that's where it's located for 2000 and earlier. OP has a 2001, and those are located under the steering wheel by the throttle pedal.

The OP knows wire color Black/yellow tracer that needs clipped. He knows the general location of part, FSM EWD tells you module number D8, 10 digit part number is on module, 10 digit part number can be found on any parts site.
That's a pretty good picture right there, figure out the pieces you don't need a picture with a circle and arrow. Your smarter in the long run, do it like you had to before internet was invented.

Here's a great pic.

2001 to 2002 DRL enabled (turn them back on)

Here's an even better one

Disabling DRL on 2001

Tanks for the info, gents - I'll be a whackin' that wire soon :)

The guy from Canada brought back some memories - I used to live there. I got real tired of being told what to do... with my own car and a whole lot of other things. Now I don't live there anymore. This guy probably does not have that option... At lease he can get stoned to ease the rage .)

We used to make fire with rocks and sticks too but we evolved.

You didn't post any pics or link to any one pic. Is this the pic from that thread you're talking about?

Lol, yes we did. When your Bic lighter is out fuel and you want fire what you gonna do ?
Evolution "the Net" is a Achilles Heel if you can't survive without it.

Nah, the web is just another tool, but it can be used for good or evil as well.

Might as well use the tools at our disposal until they are no good.

Yeah - that's one of them.

Gonna rain Saturday :( Was gonna do the o2 sensors but now I may have to lower my sights. Maybe the plug wires and the cooling system. Maybe I will do this too. But if I can, at all, I want to jack her up and do the sensors and the fuel filter. Closing in on it now...
