Hey guys in new to this site, i have doing a lot of digging around for information and I keep landing back here so I thought it would be a good home for me. Im looking for a 2001 4runner because it has the multimatic transmission, but I've heard they don't offer the e-locker on them anymore. Is this really a big deal? Should I just pass on the multimatic, I would really love a "highlander edition" also called the "sports edition". Monday-Friday I would use the truck for my custom cabinet business, and Friday evening-sunday night I would have it in the woods and lakes in the mogollon rim. I just want a capable rig right out of the box and didn't know if the e-locker is a deal breaker or not.

For what you plan on using it for I would say it is not a deal breaker. The 4runner is a very capable rig right out of the box. I personally didn't like the 2001 w/ the traction control and multi-mode 4wheel system but I grew up driving the J style so I decided to pick up a 2000 Highlander and got rid of my 2001 SR5. Heck I don't even like ABS but that's a whole new topic.

My advise to you is find one you really like. If is has that e-locker then great! If not you really won't miss it. Chances are you won't end up using it anyway if you do have it. Either way post up some pics when you get it.

I have a 2001 with out the locker and I travel up to the rim quite a bit. We always head up to Chevelon Lake area. The trails up on the rim are pretty tame compared to most in AZ, and even then I have never needed a locker any where I have gone in AZ. Definitely a bonus but not a deal breaker.
