Yes, you do need to remove both intakes...

Duhockey and I have both done ours recently so its fresh in our memories...so if you need help just PM one of us!

Yes, you must make your engine look like the one in the picture a couple of posts ago...its one intake plenum but it comes apart in two pieces. Both pieces have to be removed to get to the drivers side valve cover bolts.

You don't have to remove the upper manifold completely.
Just unbolt all the brackets that are attached to the upper manifold and any hoses that are plugged into it.
removed mounting bolts and prop it up high enough so you can remove the lower.
I used 6 inch piece of would I had laying around in the garage to hold the upper manifold up.
