2001 wheels, 15" or 16"???

Ok so i have a 2001 4Runner SR5 4WD, and the wheels i have are the 16" rims. I was on DiscountTires.com and it only showed my vehicle with 15 inch wheels. Was this an option for 16" rims or did i somehow get Limited rims on my SR5? What do you guys have from the factory?

My 2001 SR5 4WD has the 5-spoke 16s. I believe the SR5 was also offered standard with 15" steel wheels.

The 15's were stock on the SR5, w/ the 16's as an option. Those w/ 16's got better brakes as well. My 2000 base model came w/ 16's, so it was an option on any Runner.

Your basically right, but I think the larger brakes only came on the Sport and Limited model that had the 16" wheels as standard.

Also, you could get 15" alloys as a option on the SR5 and of course 16" alloy wheels. When I was looking at 4Runners in 2001, the 16" wheels were on SR5's about 60% of the time. so 16" wheels were not that uncommon.

My 2000 base model w/ the 16's has the 12" rotors which are bigger than the rotors on the 15" equipped Runner. If there was another upgrade for the sport models I have not heard about that.

I assume by base your talking about the SR5 model and not the 4 cyl. model, which is known as the base model. I know that they changed tires at the port or at the dealership and I doubt they change the brakes. I don't remember see larger brakes as a option on the SR5, but you may be correct.

Basically what pat161 is talking about is Toyota puts bigger front disc on the 4Runners with 16" wheels, since they can fit.

I do have a base model, it is a 2.7. And no, I know that you couldn't get an SR5 w/ the 2.7 in 2000, before that I can't say. My truck actually had the steel rims, but they were 16". If they added them at the port I would be surprised as my 5 speed truck came equipped w/ 4.56 gearing, trucks w/ the 15" rims did not get that low of a ratio.

Stock steel 15 in. spoked rims on my 2001 SR5. All 2001's are/were 6 cyl automatic.
The brakes are excellent and I'm convinced I will not have the warping rotor problem as with the 16in wheels/hubs.

To the original poster of this thread, go to discounttire.com again, and after you jump through all the hoops and finally get to your 2001 4Runner's tire size, look for the hot link "View Optional/Plus Sizes." This link will take you to several tire/wheel combinations that will fit your rig, including 265/70/16's which seems to be a popular tire size for 16' wheels on a 4Runner. Assuming your 4Runner came from the factory with those 16 inchers, you should have no problem that I am aware of. I run 265/70/16's on my 2000 Runner. And I bought'em from Discount with their blessing.

265/70/16 are the factory size for the 16" rims, so of course they will fit. If you want a larger tire w/ no lift then you can go to a
265/75/16 and you will gain about an inch w/ no rubbing issues.
