2002 4r with 182K it started to knock bad sounds like coming from the top of the engine. read some post and seen youT with same saying its rod bearing.

IF bad rod bearing , do repair or replace motor?

If it is that bad by the time you take into consideration time and labor to fix that an engine swap is going to be a better option I'm guessing.....

Post a video. There has been so many times when someone has thought a bad flexplate, or bad valve tick, or bad pully thinking it was a bad rod. The rod knock should come from the lower part of motor around the oil pan area more than the top.

If the rod bearing is bad, you will need a full engine haul. I would look for a good used motor to swap over if it ends up needing rebuilt. But thats just me. Others will say go have it rebuilt.

just started motor no knocking ??

just started the motor it's cool 47*
to my surprise the motor was not knocking as I was looking around for something loose that may be cause the knocking
I heard a noise starting and it looked like the bottom main pulley moved back and forward just a little.

Rod knock will not go away. Sometimes if the motor is sitting over night, its very cold (anything under say 30*) you can sometimes get a little knock on a cold start. All the oil has drained down and it can cause a little knock and or piston slap for a few minutes till oil has time to make its way through the motor. Different oil types and weights can help stop it.

This happens when I haven't started my 91 for a while. Makes awful knocking noises, spews white smoke but clears up in a minute or two. Then again I've got 288k miles on the not-so-reliable 3VZ-E engine.

Top end knocks are usually the valves out of adjustment or other things mentioned above.
