2002 Headlight Replacement Bulbs - Suggestions?

Hi Everyone,

I have asked for help on a couple other topics and I really value all the great input / advice everyone has given.

I am looking for the brightest headlight replacement bulbs that will require me to just pull out the old bulb and plug in the new one. I would prefer not to have to do any sort of modifications. I have read several posts and thought I would ask what other people are using or would recommend.

I have silverstars, not the Ultras anymore though, they burn out in about a year.Just know once you leave stock, your side markers will never match again..

Your best bet would be the Sylvania Silverstars.
You could also play with the Sylvania Silvertstar zXe's, but I don't have any input on them as I've never ran them.

Don't forget to get some premium headlight bulb fluid, it really helps with light output.



Sylvania Silverstars I think are going to be your best bet as far as halogen light goes. You can also play around with aiming your headlights so you get the best output pattern out of them.

Looks live you've already made up your mind, but as an alternative I have the PIAA 15224 H4s and they're awesome. Never compared them side by side to the Sylvanias though.

I haven't used the Silverstars in my 4runner but in my past vehicles, they have been terrible. They always burnt out within 6-8 months. I'm running some PIAA extreme whites in my T4R but the blue tint doesn't do much for lighting up the road. Going to try the Phillips Xtreme power bulbs very soon.

Silverstar's and PIAA are both blue bulb garbage. Get Phillips Extreme Power. Or GE Nighthawk Planitum (not sport)

Wil the little dinky wires handle a bulb pulling more current. Factory is like a 18awg. Too small IMO for standard lighting.

A relay kit is also highly recommended. Good stock replacement bulbs won't pull any more power from the factory wires than crap bulbs. They offer much better focus and more efficient use of the light.

I disabled the DRLs and then put the silver star ultras in and have been running them now for well over a year. I have always used the silver star ultras since they came out in my other vehicles with no issues.

Blue tint: on a rainy night, you will NOT see the road.
Any crappy bulb without a brand name from ebay/amazon

I use Koito/Stanley/philips 55/65 W works very well.

I have been running GE Nighthawk Platinum for almost a year now and I love them.
Nice and white. Grabbed them for $10 a pair after rebate.
I am also running the Hella Yellow Stars in the fogs.

Thanks everyone for the comments... the 02 4Runner is for my son. I got him the Toytec Ultimate 3" Lift Kit, new wheels and 285/70/17 tires....I just want to make sure whichever bulb I get is brighter and better for him when driving at night. I really appreciate all the input. Definitely seems like there are a lot of bulb choices out there. Decisions, decisions.....

Sorry to thread jack, but does anyone know the part number or name of the piece of wire metal that keeps the bulb clamped in place? I lost on of mine and cant find it online anywhere.

I have used silverstar ultras. They last about a year or so.
