2002 sport needs some good tires... Nokian anyone?

Hi all,

I've got a 2002 sport that is in serious need of some good tires now that the winter is almost here. Years ago I ended up putting nokian vatiivas on my 99 jeep. Those were awesome tires. They chewed through the snow up here in the mountains and served as a great year-round tire.

I'm thinking of getting some nokians again. Anyone here use them on their 4runner? We get lots of snow as I live in a ski town, but really don't want a dedicated winter tire (we dont have the storage), or studs. Is there a certain line from nokian you would reccomend?

Also, I want a slightly bigger tire than the stock size I'm using now. I'm looking for a little more aggressive of a look. What might be the recommended tire size on a stock 2002 (no lift or spacers... Yet)


EDIT: It looks like the previous owner didn't put stock size tires on. The size are 255/70/r16

I run 265 65 17 vatiiva a/t for three seasons on my 07. I run hakkapeliitta suv
On fj rims during winter. I'm not sure if the hakkas are overkill as the vatiivas look like they can handle snow easily. Nokians rock!

What about the Nokian WRG2's? They're all-season but more winter capable than normal all-season tires. They don't have the aggressive AT look though.

Whelp, I went ahead and got the Vatiivas. The shop had to order them and they'll be put on today . Unfortuantely, we got a bunch of snow this weekend, so they're a few days late! But, there are plenty more feet of snow to encounter over the next few months.

I really think the Vatiivas are going to be great. They were awesome on my jeep in the snow. I looked at the WRG2, but thought it would just be overkill for me.

I run the WRG2s on a Volkwagen. Fantastic tires and I run 4 seasons in Ohio. 100 degree summer, and snow and ice in the winter. I'd put them on my 4Runner, but I have the Revo 2 right now.

I have the same Vatiivas in 265/75/16 and I must say they are horrible in snow and mud. It's got the m+s rating but I've been stuck in 4wd so many times this winter in places where my 2wd buddy can make it out no problem. ABS is always kicking on and they weren't very good in light mud either. For a brand reputation like that I'm disappointed in the Vatiivas, probably why they stopped making them. Over priced Finland tires. :violin:
