2003 - 2006 headlight exact swap list

I have a question that has been asked 1000 times before. I'm doing the headlight/grille swap on my 2004 4Runner. I'd like to compile an exact list of what people need to do this swap since I was unable to find one here, just bits and pieces. If its already been listed please point me in the direction and I will thank you profusely otherwise I'm not looking for "this has been covered in numerous threads" answer and no proof given after that. Sorry to be a pain in the arse.

I already have the 2006-2009 grille and the 2006-2009 headlight housings. I just need all the smaller parts. My question is about the lights.

1. Are the bulbs from the 2003-2005 interchangeable with the 2006-2009? If not I already know which to get. Here's what Im getting

A. signal lamp bulb left and right
B. marker lamp bulb left and right
C. high beam bulb left and right
D. socket and wire left and right

I know I need the low beam bulb which I have decided to go HID. Just need to figure out which one. Can you tell me exactly what are the parts that I am missing to get this done right the first time? I have read about other wiring harnesses being needed but I just can't figure out what they are. Remember, I know what the "other" little bits and pieces are, I just need to know what extra wiring harnesses are needed and if the bulbs are interchangeable.

the only bulbs that swap over are the 194 marker lights and high beams.

You'll need two 81125-35440, thats the wiring for the bulbs for the 06 lights and just snip and solder to your existing harness. Thats what i did.

Headlights are H11 bulbs
Blinkers are 1156/7 depending if you have DRLs or not.
High beams swap over directly
194 bulbs for marker lights

I did this and successfully swapped over to 06 headlights.

How can I tell if I have DRL's (I assume thats Day Time Running Lights?). I lucked out and got a set of 2007 SE headlights from Ebay for $120 total with shipping, all tabs in place.

do you have your marker lights on regardless of lights being on? the 1157 bulbs are dual filament so they can do running lights/blinker

Will the 194 socket that already exists on the 2003-2005 harness fit the 2006+ headlight housings? I only need something to fill that hole, only gonna run the 1156 holder as parking lights.

I think it does but the 06 has an extension so you can get the bulb in and out. If you use the 03-05 194 socket, you might need to pop the headlights out to get to it.

Yeah then I would be fine. Because once I install the 194 socket it wont be coming back out because I won't be installing a bulb there.

I have a crack in one of my headlights so its time to replace them. Are there any oem aftermarket headlights that work well? (tyc/depo) After searching I've only come across those black projector ones..not really a fan of those. Is oem toyota the only way to go?

thanks for the response. My buddy at toyota can get the 06 sport headlights for $428 a set after tax. Looks like i'll be going with those unless there are cheaper OEM ones online

I found mine through car-part.com. Used OEM all around where I live. Just need to search the salvage yards. Typically, if it is posted on car-part.com, then they already have it on the shelf ready to go.

I'm pretty sure the 194 sockets on my 04 didn't fit the 08 headlights I put in.
