Also, it’s not diy, but URD makes an O2 simulator for $150. Not sure what your situation is but if you’re throwing a CEL code for a bad cat some guys use spacers on the o2 sensors.

I’m in the same boat with my ‘04 v8 that has the Thorley headers. They have CATs welded in, but still throws the P0420 (or 0421, don’t remember). Anyway, my research led me to the same conclusion you mentioned, but after looking at my sensors, one has a spacer already on it (bought the truck with the headers already installed). So, I planned to get the URD plug and play harnesses, but dragged my feet for a couple of months, and when I went to purchase, I found out they discontinued the plug and play version. I guess they only sell the universal one now, which is fine, but you do have to cut and splice the harnesses, which I was looking to avoid.

If you wanted, you could try adding another spacer or two. I’ve seen some guys have to use 3 spacers to get no CEL and some guys get away with 1. Weird but it works and is significantly cheaper than the urd O2 simulator.

I absolutely would do that, and have considered it, along with maybe trying one of those mini-CAT spacers that contain catalyst material, but MA now has a new CA type inspection that also has cameras that see the underside of the car to check for emission mods. My thinking was that, I could more easily hide wiring, then to have something as obvious as spacers. If I lived in a normal state, then by all means I’d go with your suggestion, though!

That’s the type I wanted, however, when I searched the site, no longer found the V8 version listed. I contacted them directly about it, and was told that they had issues with that version, so it was discontinued.:redbrick: He said that I could use the universal version and direct wire it, but I definitely would’ve preferred the plug in version.

So, just to update this... my truck had the double spacers on the left side (driver’s side) already, but for some reason not on the passenger side sensor, which the code was indicating was the problem (catalyst efficiency bank 2). I was originally confused because most cars I’ve had, bank 1 was the passenger side, but for under $10, decided to give the spark plug spacers a whirl. Since I have a lathe, drilling them to the appropriate sizes was super easy. I bolted them on, cleared the codes, and the light was gone! I did have some pending codes for the evap system though, but tracked that down to a hole in the line from the tank to the charcoal canister, which I repaired. Now it has been a couple of weeks of daily use with no codes! I also had to do the zero point calibration to get the other lights off, but I’m pretty psyched because this is the first time since I’ve owned this truck (almost a year now) that my dash is light free!
