2003 4runner V8, Recommended Exhaust?

Hello, I'm looking for an exhaust for my 2003 4runner with the 4.7 L V8. I am looking for something that gives a nice rumble with I step on the gas, but not something too loud. I guess that would be considered medium volume? If anyone has experience changing the exhaust on their V8 4runner and would like to recommend any, that would be great. I am open to both changing just the muffler or the entire system.I have the stock setup right now. :thanks:

Have an 18'' magnaflow welded in. I just got the 22'' and it sounds awesome, but not real loud. Sounds like you'd want the slightly louder 18'' than the 22'.

Fyi that 14'' is their louder one, so 18'' is a good middle road.

Magnaflow 12256, 18" long, 2.5" in 2.5"in out. Direct replacement at stock muffler location. Sounds great. Low rumble at idle, no question its a v8 on acceleration. No drone and not obnoxiously loud. I think this is exactly what you're looking for. It cost me $175 installed at at the muffler shop. Dapitbull has a youtube on it here somewhere.

Another vote for Magnaflow. I plan to pickup either a muffler or the catback for mine before the end of the year.

The catback wont give you any better gains but I like the stainless steel pipes you can see in the wheel well and the look of the tips and the way the tips are out the side way more than the stock setup.

The catback can be found on Ebay from various sellers for under $475 shipped and can be installed by yourself in your driveway.

A welded in muffler will sound pretty much the same and be cheaper although you'll need to take it to a shop to be welded in. The catback gives you a direct bolt on you can do yourself and I feel looks better overall (although costs a few hundred more).

Sounds good. I was also considering the Flowmaster 50 SUV muffler but from a quick search it looks like Magnaflow would be the way to go cost-wise.

DEFIANTLY since you have the v8, go with a flowmaster, you won't regret it i promise. Go for the suv 50 series if you don't want to hear it much unless your hard on the throtle, but if you want that nice rumble, get a flowmaster super 44, i have that on my 4runner and i don't even turn the radio on, its just music to my ears. If you want it really loud, then cut off the resonator and you'll be louder and deeper than a mustang gt! Flowmaster makes the BEST exhuast's for v8s!

Have a 14 inch series 50 Flowmaster. Get the 18 inch. lol I'm going back to have them cut the resonator off and put a stainless pipe and curl it to the side like the 3rd generations.

Yes I have heard good things about Flowmaster. I looked into the super 44 and it sounds good but it's too loud for what I'm looking for.

I'm definitely wanting to put a new exhaust on mine. I feel like the stock is way too quiet. People should know you have a v8. It doesn't have to be loud, just a little throaty. You don't hear that at all with modern cars. Sad.

I'm thinking about getting that Magnaflow one in 14" or 18', i'm just looking to get the muffler for now. Maybe a whole catback in the future.


I use to have a Super 10 exhaust on truck dumped after the axle, that thing was nice, wasn't too loud as I figured it would be.

I have a Flowmaster 50 (part #52557) and I love it. I paid $129 Amazon Prime, and another $100 to have it welded on, resonator cut off, and exhaust pipe routed out the passenger's side. Perfect V8 rumble, although my MPGs went down because flooring it sounds soooo good :dance:

I have an 18" magnaflow and it was a little too quiet at first. I could barely hear it. I just had my exhaust re-routed to the side and the resonator cut out. It is quite a bit louder and has a nice rumble to it. It doesn't drone on the freeway though. I think it's the perfect setup

I'm surprised no one has said gibson. I could not be happier with it, has a nice idle and cruise but screams notes of the gods when floored.

Well this was a few years ago now, but I did end up getting the Gibson and still love the way it sounds.
