Thai,

How is the SMG ? Is the same thing going in the M5 ? I on a waiting list for the 2005/06 M5 and what I hear the SMG is awesome.

Thanks

yup, the next M5 will have SMG for sure. There is a rumor of a 7-speed manual transmission...so, that means that the SMG may have 7 gears also!:) Shifting will probably be even faster than my current version of SMGII.

I love SMG. I will never buy a manual or automatic transmission again!:runaway:

The next M5 is gonna be a monster!

Thai,

To me the WRX,EVO is no comparision to an M3. The M3 is a whole different animal. Now if we compare the Supra TT :) with an M3 now it's a better comparison.

Have you ever rode or driven a Supra TT ?

Great car. If you want some links for some supra stuff just ask and I will post.

Chance, no i never did get a chance to ride in a Supra...but those things can haul ass big time...especially the modded ones!!

Give me links...love to learn more about it. Thanks.

19in rims. . .

Thai-
Is your ride comfortable at all?? I was thinking about upgrading the rims on my Contour SVT to 18's, but with the Houston streets, I'm wondering if the change in aspect ratio from 45 to 40 will make things a bit jarring. . .here's a pic of her on 17's. . .

ssmumich00,

Well, my M3's ride can be rough over a few Houston streets. But, it comes with the territory...looks great and improves the M3 steering feel.

For you, a change to 18" cast wheels may increase your unsprung weight, which may be too much for your suspension (springs and shocks).

If i were you, then i would consider getting FORGED 18" rims because forged rims are considerably lighter (equal to a 16" cast rim) AND stronger (needed for Houston streets). But, forged rims are $$$$$, so be prepared to spend some cash!

My M3 came with optional 19" M-forged rims. It weighs about the same as the standard 18" cast rims. According to a few people, the 19" rims increase ride harshness, but improves steering feel. I agree.

I am not sure what 18" rims will do for your Contour...but the ride will probably be a bit rougher. But, i am sure that your Contour will look real nice!

Nice SVT Contour! What are the specs on those things??

Stock 200hp/170tq out of a 2.5L V6.

Since then, I've further extrude honed the upper intake manifold, added a 75mm throttle body, added a 2.25inch cat back+ypipe, and changed the flywheel out for a 9lb fidanza one (and added a Quaife LSD while I was at it).

The final coup de grace will be a t3/4 turbo kit, which is dynoed at 295fwhp/260tq (which is like 330hp/300tq with driveline loss).

Biggest problem with the turbo kit is putting power down to the ground, since it is FWD. But, so far FI CSVTs are running mid-13's in the quarter mile at 5-10psi of boost. Stock quarter miles are in the mid-14's.

Forged 18's. . .if I could find a company that makes 'em!! I like the SSR rims on tirerack, but they don't come with a 4-bolt pattern. The closest I've come to a lightweight 18in rim is the OZ-Crono Evolution, 18X7 in a 4-bolt pattern is like 18lbs? I also like the 18x7.5 ASA AR1's, which weight 22lbs. Currently, I have light weight Rota Attacks at 17lbs/side, so yeah, I'll take a hit (but then 215/40-18 tires are lighter than the current 225/45-17's!)

We'll see. . .btw, post some pics of your M3, absolutely my next car, I'm making the contour the project car (with a turbo comes lack of reliability). . .I'm curious to see the next gen 3-series and the next gen M3. . .I don't like where they've gone with the 5-series, but the M5 spy pics do look nice. . .I hope they don't make the 3-series look fat like the 5 and 7-series. . .

Man, with that much power, you should be able to do better than mid-13's in the 1/4 mile. My M3 runs around that or a bit faster. You may be able to beat too with those numbers!

I wonder what the torque steer is like with that much power to the front. The LSD should help a lot.

I would go with the OZ rims. I have heard good things about them. Don't they make the rims on the new Mitsu Evo??

Nice Contour...damn, another car that i need to avoid on the streets!;):

As for pics of my car, just check out this thread (and scroll down):
