door lock

My has another stupid problem. When I use my keyless, unlock button in the car or use the key to unlock the door. it has no problem at all, but they are all fail in lock operation. I have to push down the lock everytime.

Can anyone help?

Latest update,

All four door locks on my 4runner have now gone bad.

Drivers side door locks (front and rear) have been replaced. Passenger side on order and has not come in (it's been a month now). Just found out last week that passenger side rear door lock quit working.

Lumbar support motor for drivers seat is on back order.

All will be covered under extended waranty.

I guess the tail gate door lock or motor is left to fail.

Just wanted to add my experience since I was very disappointed in my 2003's door locks.

Owned a 2003 Limited V6 and driver's door lock stopped working about 20,000 in. Bad actuator replaced under warranty. About 40,000 miles in (warranty had expired) the passenger door lock started sticking occassionally. Fortunately, it fixed itself somehow because I didn't want to spend the money to have Toyota replace it.

Then, while selling my 2003 (in order to get my current 2005 V8) which at that time now had approximately 53,000 miles, the passenger rear went bad. Instead of spending the money on the lock, I just told each prospective buyer that I'd knock off $400.00 from the price.

Also, one of the Judge's I work with are park in the same garage owned (and still does) a 2003 SR5. Out of curiousity I asked him if he had any door lock problems. He said that both his driver side front and rear broke within a month of each other. When the rear broke (the second one to break) he told Toyota to replace all his locks with new ones (ie. the passenger sides that hadn't broken yet).

Toyota told me that they had NEVER seen another door lock stop working. Given my experience, and the one person who I asked about their door locks, they definitely were feeding me a line of crap.

Anyway, hopefully any newly produced door locks/actuators don't suffer from the same proglem.

It's interesting to hear so many of you have had this problem as well. I've now had the work completed on all 4 door locks. I hope the tail gate doesn't fail now (JINX!).

Right after I got my T4R back from the dealer, the AC quit working. Going back to the dealer this weekend!!!

2004 Driver Door went out today!

So today I park in the mall parking lot and while walking away I notice it doesn't sound right when I pushed the lock button on the keyless entry. I pulled on the door and it opened. The other doors were locked except the driver door. I manually locked it and left. I returned and went to another store. Hit the lock button and nothing happened. I found I couldn't lock the door manually either. It was stuck. I had no way of securing my 4Runner in the parking lot so I left and drove straight to the dealer, who was luckily able to get me in (being that it was 3:30 PM).

They discovered that the driver door lock mechanism, the actuator, went bad. THANK GOD I RECENTLY PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY (see a different post on warranties). My 2004 4Runner now has 37,500 miles or so on it. I thought it was weird something like that would go out so soon. I used the keyless entry about 99.9 % of the time. I initially thought it had to do with a weak battery in the fob but guess not. By the way my key would not even allow me to lock the door.

Dealer is replacing the actuator in the morning with one they had in stock, covered under the extended warranty. Had I done (even) more reading on this board, maybe I would have known what was going on when it happened.

Meanwhile I'M DRIVING A TOYOTA PRIUS rental car, covered by the warranty. If only the 4Runner got the same mileage!!!

Bunch of crap
