Will not work on our cars. The MAF has a limit, and the ecu can't compansate for that much more air. The TRD super chargers only boost 7-9 and they need to add 2 more injectors and take timing out.

Fair enough. I guess you would know better than me, that's why don't plan on doing it myself!!:p

So what's the fix here? A new MAF and new ECU? Or an add-on to the ECU?

Also, RXvedub, were you going to put together a quote for a custom turbo setup? Just curious.

Two ways to solve this problem without a full piggyback or standalone.
1) Get a device that will clamp the voltage at the 5V limit. Then add a fuel pressure risor to the return line. The FPR will essentially add fuel with increasing boost around the 5V MAF clamp. An SAFC can help with the tuning as well.

2) Get a larger intake sampling tube where the MAF sits in the intake tract. It will essentially allow more air into the motor without exceeding the 5V reading limit. Then add a fuel pressure regulator to increase the base fuel pressor which will compensate for the lower injector duty cycle of the lower MAF reading. This also had the added benefit of slightly increasing timing.

There is a little problem with this. Our factory fuel pressure regulator dose not hook to the intake manifold for its vacuum reference, bot to the intake box. This means that it never sees a true vacuum. If anything it sees more vacuum with more throttle, which is the opposite of a regular regulator.

#1 solution is not too efficient. It is going to produce allot of inconsistency and variance in the O2 readings and trip the computer.

#2 is going to completely change all the mapping in the factory ECU. The larger tube will cause the car to run lean at idle, and trip the computer within 10 min of just idling. I saw this problem allot on the Celica forums when I had one.

Both of thies would work great if our cars wrn't so sophisticated.

I plan on experimenting a little with the fuel pressure regulator on my truck. Hooking the vacuum line to the manifold its self pre and post supercharger. Getting an adjustable regulator. All this as soon as get off my ass and put my wide band O2 on the truck and remember who I lent my fuel pressure test gauge to.

As for ECU options there are a few but not they

I'm not too familiar with the 4runner fuel setup...but I am very much so with the IS300's setup which has a very sophisticated computer control as well.

I am almost done doing a turbo IS300 with an AEM engine managment. I had to completly disect that fuel system and rebiuld it.
The IS300 unit, is a returnless system as you know. But the fuel pump is a "two step". IE low voltage and high voltage to add pressure and volume. Also the IS300 dose have a fuel pressure regulator and that one is static with no signal, where as ours dose use the vacume signal, just not real vacume. That FPR is located in the tank its self integrated with the fuel pump assembly.

The Greddy stuff is great, I use it all the time in place of an apexi SAFC. The reson I would use the Split Second stuff is because it is less expensive, easier to tune for the end user (if I ship the kit), and I dont have to deal with gready USA with bugs in the program.

Hahah...great to hear that you are modifying in the IS300 world as well. It's a disease...can't leave anything well enough alone. Do you frequent is300.net and what is your screenname?

Interesting that you are using AEM with the IS. This has been a pretty recent development over there. Which kit are you using? The setup from Lance/Toyomoto or a custom kit from turbo97se? Or are you the guy that works for AEM?

same name on the is forums. no, no, and no. I am doing it my self, with a little help from one of the owners of AEM. turbo97se and I exchanged info about 3 years back before anyone was doing this shit. But I am having other issues. I have the IS crank trigger with a supra cam (2 less trigger teeth than the IS). So I am mixing the two set ups wich maked it difficult to use either settings.

Also TWINS TURBO (SUCKS BUCOKY) put the motor together and was prettending to do work on the car before me. So that has haulted progress a few times to fix F-ups.

That's because they've been discontinued and the only ones on the market are either used or unsold that fit only '03-'04 4Runners and Tundras. Snice TRD yanked them from production the only way to find them is on eBay or any other autoparts house that purchased a surplus. They're out there though.

Yeah, but if I read your signature, you've got an '05, so your'e SOL. they wont fit with the vvti engine.

cross refference intake manifold gasket part numbers between an '05 and an '04 to see if they match. If the dao, you have a possible fittment with mods, and you need to program an ecu from scratch.
