2004 JBL Stereo Replacement Advice

After driving around my wife's 2014 Camry I really miss the features of her radio. (Bluetooth, iPhone connectivity, and rear camera) So I have decided to take the plunge and swap out the radio.

I'm being lazy and don't want to search all the threads, but just want to make sure I am buying the right parts. My goal is to remove the JBL system and take it down to 7 speakers. (2 tweets, 4 mids, and the sub)

Sub - Already installed Fosgate Amp and Sub.

1 - Kenwood DVD and mount
1 - Pair of front speakers (tweets/mid combo)
1 - Pair of rear speakers
1 - 4 channel amp
1 - Rear camera
1 - Steering wheel adapter
1 - Antenna adapter
Speaker wire and amp install kit.

Any advice on install and parts would be greatly appreciated.

I just got my 4Runner and won't be doing the inside until I've taken care of a few things, however I did scour the forum for weeks reading about audio and saved several threads and like you I have a parts list. Your list looks complete, minus speaker adapters for the front (unless you are going back in with 6x9s) so i'll just drop a couple of links to ya, lazy!

I'd recommend the Metra adapter 70-8114 for the steering wheel controls (if you don't have it already).

Looking forward to seeing what you do. I have the JBL as well and it makes what should be a simple HU swap much more difficult and the forum is full of folks who were unhappy with the results.

Seems the best way is to pull everything and start from scratch as you are doing.

That really is the easiest way to do it. I mean, all you need is a constant power, accessory power, and a ground and you're good to go. Run new speaker wire and whatever accessories you want and done!

camera and steering controls

Future:
everything above
4 channel
component front
component rear-tweets in cargo spots
3.5" speaker in center of dash,
possibly 3.5's in the front tweet spots like others have done.

To many options.

Love the size, and apparently just as good and strong as larger amps

+1 on the Metra. I didn't need an adaptor for my antenna but your head unit might be different since it's a screen. Also none of the bracket kits I've seen include tweeter brackets so I just used some of the metal strapping from HD.

idatalink maestro sw is the way to go for 03-05 vehicles
idatalink maestro RR for 06+ vehicles

SW can program 2 layers of buttons straight from the PC for setup. No need for auto learning with the aswc.

RR takes it to the next level when you have a nice kenwood double din. how about TPMS PSI and temp on screen. OBDII scan and reset on screen!

plus maestro will not loose functions for no reason. oh dont even get me started with the PAC SWI or CP5.

oh the awesome setup is 7" kenwood components in the front and coax in the rear on a 5 channel amp with the jl audio stealthbox. pac lc1 bass knob.

remember to remove the crossover block that behind the 6x9 speaker bracket in the door for better sound going to the 6x9 speaker if you choose not to go the 7" route.

dont run the kac cheap stuff, buy the xr900.5 or any of the xr series stuff. more power. xr400 is a nice amp small and cheap

Gotcha. I just have a crappy little single DIN so it makes no difference to me.

I love this forum. Thank you everyone for your advice and links. I'm going to check prices and slowly buy the system. It's too darn hot in Phoenix right now to install, so I'm thinking Sep-Oct timeframe.

Fosgate Amp
Speakers - Don't know yet
Will checkout the idatalink
Might do the R-Side steering wheel controls for bluetooth

Any recommendations on a rear camera?
