2004 Master Cylinder Fail ?

Help... My son's '04 4Runner (2wd) lost all brakes last night (in a parking lot thankfully). The dealer just informed me that we need a new master cylinder system for a total of $3,300 (about $2,700 in parts + 4 hrs labor). Is this reasonable? Is it possible to get the parts elsewhere (significantly) cheaper?

Recommendations for a good Toyota mechanic in Tampa?

Another victim of The Toyota Hydroboost saga. Who will be next???????? Toyota dealerships and mechanics alike are making a killing on this over-engineered piece o' crap part.

So my dealer service rep replied with ...
"We have a failed code c1223,2351,1252 and 1256. Brake booster motor failed. We would have to replace the master cylinder assy. Est is as follows,

part# 47051-60081 Cylinder Assy 2545.57 x1
00289-2BC00 brake cleaner 7.95 x2
00475-1bf03 5.95x2
labor of 394.00, 20.00 shop supplies
adds up to 2987.37 plus tax "

I am only really questioning the $2,545.57 for the Cylinder Assy. When I search Village Toyota Parts I don't find # 47051-60081 but I do see other Cylinder Assemblies for about $1,789 which is in line with what you mentioned. I'm wondering if there are different part numbers or something?

Thanks for any guidance. I'd sure like to shave $750 off of this hit.

You can find them for cheaper. I was quoted 2875.00 just for the assembly not including labor. I literally told her she must be smoking crack if you think I am going to pay that much for a part. I could buy an entire new motor for that.... I called around to salvage yards and found one out of Michigan who had the part and gave me a warranty on it. I paid 600 bucks delivered to my house then had a shop install it. It was still a 1,000 dollar repair. Best of luck
 
If you look at the picture for the brake master cylinder assembly, there are a couple large boxes that surround the whole thing with a part number pointing to the box that indicates the part number for the assembly containing everything inside the box.

From their parts diagrams, $1700 should be the entire unit.

He is spot on. I did this it was going to be 1700 for the entire unit that I needed.
 
would you be interested in a used one. I am converting my 03 to hydroboost. they are between 480-1000 on ebay....i was thinkin 500 shipped.
 
Master culinder brakes

Hello guys i am new in the forum.. Just bought a 04 v6 4Runner i am having some problems with the brakes, the pads are good almost new, and the problem i have is the pedal feels soft and long..! I did bleed the brakes and the pedal is a bit better... Not much of improvement.! I did test the master C pumpimg brakes with key off and the pedal got hard very hard.. Then turned key on and I heard the "cylinder" coming on for about 15 seconds with a 3 switch off in between.. ! Is this normal? Os it the MC working correctly? Or maybe caliper or calipers are bad? Please help if you can thanks.!!
 
When the truck is running how often does the pump come on? It should be about every 3 brake engagements. Mine was turning on and pressing up about every 15 seconds with or without brakes depressed. So the accumulator was not holding pressure.
