New to the group so if this is not in the right place, please let me know.
Our 2004 4-Runner, V8, Automatic, 185k miles, has developed an odd starting issue. Recently, when I go to start, turn the key and the dash lights up and then goes off. There is no clicking sound. Raise the hood. Check the battery cables (new battery last month). Cables are tight. Go back and turn the key and it starts like nothing was ever wrong. Have to reset the clock so power is definitely being lost somwhere. It will do right all day long. The next morning, this procedure begins again. The other odd thing is that sometimes it starts right up in the mornings.
I have read about starter contacts and wonder if this is the problem..could it be battery cable problem? Have an issue with corrosion buildup even though I have used the stuff you get with the battery that is supposed to prevent that.
I have a mechanic I trust, but like to have some idea what the issues may be before I take it to him.
