2004 Standard Radio

Hey, I'm in the market for a new vehicle and the 4 runner is at the top of the list. Anyway, is there a place I can find the specs on the standard radio that comes with the 4Runner?

Yeah, I can get that off their website and I see that in the brochure but that tells me squat.

I want to know specs, like wattage, does it support CD text, do you get the extra stuff transmitted by the radio stations, does it have a button to reduce the volume quickly like you would need when going thru a drive thru or on the phone.

I can't tell you wattage but it does support CD text, does not support radio text and the button to reduce the volume quickly is called the OFF button.

I had a radio a few years ago that had a button called "ATT" for lowering the volume without having to turn the volume down and then have to turn it back up. It was a very convenient feature.

a MUTE button would be cool. My Sienna has one on the steering wheel controls and is very convenient.

I actually wasnt trying to be sarcastic. My Pioneer radio in my pickup has that ATT button also but I think they add that because to turn the unit off you have to hold down the SRC button for a few seconds. On a radio where you have to turn the nob to power it off ATT can be of use but on the stock radio its pretty much push on/push off and the volume stays the same.

The stock radio is 160W, really. I did not know that, My Scion radio that I put in is 160W and it sounds 10000000X better than the stock radio especially with the feel option on.

Hey Snowjay, I see you have a 94 Ram. I've got a 95 Ram with 180k miles on it that I'm going to get out of this spring. It's been a GREAT truck but it's nearing some major work in about another year.

160 Watts?

Wonder if it's 160 Watts peak or RMS.
40Watts RMS per channel wouldn't be bad, and might drive better speakers.

It does get very loud, but it sounds pretty bad. I wish there was a way to lower the mid bass, without affecting the low bass, (like a midrange adjustment) as it sounds a bit boomey, when you turn up the bass, and you never really get much low bass.

Everyone says to get a new H.U. but I'd hate to lose my steering wheel button functions.

Wondering which brand of replacement 6.5" spks, might give it better sound. I'd replace the little tweeters too.

Also considering a 4 ch amp, (with the new spks) that I could mount below the passenger seat maybe? But it might not really help.

My 94 has 210k. It's still in pretty decent shape and doesnt really need any major work.
