2004 Tire Pressure Monitoring System

I have had this tire pressure problem with my 4runner but I have only ever checked the 4 main tires and not the spare. Is the spare tire connected to the TPMS as well and do I have to check the pressure on it as well?

Unfortunately yes. You should be able to reach the valve without dropping the tire. i find the pressure idiot light a real pain in the ass.

If you have bought the sport model, the usual 'take-off' rims won't fit the Sprt, due to the larger calipers.

You can buy new sensors from the dealer or a grommet kit that I think would include the rubber parts that can be used when mounting the sensors in another set of rims.

Just a note on PSI . Check the specs for all new 265 65R 17 tires . The recommended PSI is 44 , considerably higher than Toyota's 32 psi . Lower PSI results in faster tire wear and lower mpg . It could also result in blown tires as was the case with Firestones on Ford Explorers .
