2004 Windshield molding or trim?

I started noticing wind noise on the highway a couple months ago and a little water coming in from the top at the do it yourself car wash. Looking at the trim along the top of the windshield I'm wondering if I lost a piece of trim or molding. Can't tell from any parts diagrams or photos of other 4Runners. This is what it looks like above the steering wheel. Does it look normal or am I missing something? If you have a 2004 can you post a picture of yours in the same place?

You cant replace the top trim piece without pulling the windshield. I suggest having a new windshield put in if its leaking. The seal under it is likley failed.

if the windshield was replaced, they did not do a good job on applying the adhesive on the top part. could be not enough.

Silicone will do the trick, just don't get it everywhere.

I thought about filling that groove with black silicone caulk, just not sure how easy it will be to remove when the time comes to replace the windshield. No breaks or chips in the glass now so I really don't want to pay for a new one. It looks like there's a piece of trim or something missing which is why I asked for pictures of others. I lost a piece of molding on the back window once and finally figured out that's why the rear door kept getting water in it.

It's been many years since the windshield was replaced. Found a receipt from 2004, honestly can't remember if that was the last replacement or not.

I had the same issue with water dripping down the inside of my windshield after I bought it from one of my cousins. I can tell someone did a pretty crap job of putting the seal back on. I filled it with clear silicone, no issues since. I figure if I ever need to replace the windshield I'll deal with it then.

Now I'm wondering if they broke the seal on the windshield when my dash was replaced. That's about the time I started to hear the wind noise and notice the leak at the car wash. I did fill in the gap along the top with black silicone and it looks great.

I just went and looked at my 04 and it looks the same as your's so you aren't missing any trim, the exception is the black "spot" on the roof next to the side roof trim about an inch back from your windshield, is that a rust spot(?), if so you may have a rust issue around the seal, if not then hopefully the silicone will stop the issue.

Went out and looked, just a little rock chip in the paint that I need to touch up. Before I put the silicone on we washed and waxed the 4R with Nu Finish, that stuff works great. Guess I missed that spot with the touch up paint, thanks.
