I've owned a couple 4runners, 07 and 08, and I'm thinking about buying a used 2005 4runner V8 4WD. The one I found is in great shape and well cared for, only thing is the miles are a bit high. How long can I expect to drive this with that kind of mileage? I'd hate to get to 200k or so and it go out on me as I've never owned one with this kind of miles. Any thoughts and/or ideas of what I can expect? Repairs I can anticipate?

It really depends on how well the vehicle was maintained. You just never know.
If well maintained...then you could expect well past the 300k mile mark.
I have an 05 (V6 though) with over 190k miles...runs EXCELLENT...doesn't burn one drop of oil. I figure I'm about half way through it's life.

As said before, it depends on maintenance history. if possible, go to toyota owners website with VIN and see if there is any dealer maintenance history. This should give you an idea of what has been and has not been done to the vehicle. Outside of dealer maintenance, unless the original owner can provide reciepts of work done, you wont know how well-maintained the engine/drivetrain were.
Thanks a lot guys. I really appreciate it, made the purchase and will be picking up my 3rd 4Runner tomorrow. I'll be absolutely thrilled to get 300k out of it. Funny that I went over it today and the only thing it needed was a door actuator for the driver side, a fog light bulb and an extra key (not a need). Other than that, it is perfect exterior and interior.

I would not buy a vehicle with that many miles. I would look for something different. I do not care if it is a Toyota, rubber seals, cv joints boots etc start drying out and leaking.

The things you listed have nothing to do with miles, but rather age... Just sayin. Miles are not a concern but rather the kind of miles and care. Would you rather have one with 200k pure highway, or 75k downtown NYC miles?

I almost pulled the trigger on a 2008 Sport V6 4x4, but I am glad I kept my 2005 Sport V8 4x4. The other members here with V8's have all had nothing but great things to say about the engine. Not saying the V6 is bad at all, but I think I'm really going to be impressed with how far this 4runner will take me.
Also, my Borla wouldn't sound the same on a V6. Recently I have been getting tons of compliments with how my 4runner sounds. I don't even have the Volant CAI on there. I removed it and put the stock airbox on for my CA SMOG, and kept it on for the wife while I am deployed. It has the reusable K&N air filter installed, and when I first got the 4runner I removed the HC filter. I probably didn't need to do that, but I was eager to perform my first mod.
Back to the OP, I am so glad I kept the V8. Thank you to everyone who had posted about how their experiences with the 2UZ-FE. It really made me feel like I made the right choice. I can't speculate on an engine with 150,000 miles but I hope it all works out for you. To be honest, it all comes down to the previous owner and their care for the 4runner. Good Luck!

152k miles here on my 03 V8. Just changed the dino oil after 6k miles. It was still golden. Changed the oil on my wife's Kia Rondo (30kmiles on it and changed after 6k mile) and it looked like tar.
Took the 4R for a 600 round mile trip to OXB NC. Wouldn't think twice about taking it again over the much newer Kia.

GEE...I better sell my 05 4runner quick...because I'm well past that.
Sounds to me like you don't keep your vehicles very long. And you're getting confused with age vs mileage. Everything you've pointed out are AGE related NOT mileage related.
I've maintained 4 vehicles to well past the 300k mile mark. The key is "Maintaining".
That would apply only if it wasn't maintained. I've owned a couple Toyotas with miles in the 200k range that were problem free.
