What Makes and Brakes this Engine. Some people say its got issues others say its Bullet Proof. What are the pros and cons??
Who says it has "issues"? Mine had an issue because I drove it completely underwater and it exploded. I repaired it myself in my backyard and am still driving it to this day. The only issue I can think of is VERY few mechanics are capable of looking at that engine, much less fixing it. Now that I have taken mine apart and seen how advanced they are, I wouldn't trust any shop to rebuild one unless they offered an unconditional warranty.
Sheeeshhhhh, don't get too triggered now duffdog Ed_C ! Toyotas, including our 4Runners, are driven by all different types of people, from the die hards like the members on here to a 16 year old girl whose parents probably ignored maintenance the entire life of the vehicle and handed it down to her bc it was having "issues"
Not everyone is gonna say positive things about the same brand/car/engine simply out of not knowing as much as the next person (Hell I'll never buy a Ford, but there's guys on a Ford thread right now probably bashing Toyotas). I've heard people just have bad comments about the engine. Prob some on here in one of the hundreds of "V6 vs V8" threads. Just expressing that everyone's always got their opinions. I already expressed mine in my last post.
If this is still to "vague" for you guys, take the time and do the search yourself.
Props to you though Duff for taking it apart and putting it back together yourself in the backyard, plenty of people probably couldn't do that.
Triggered, nope. But 8-post OP has signed up here since March, he could've just done some searching rather than ask a vague and troll-y kind of post, BS like that gets old.
I'm not going to say the UZ series of V8 engines are perfect, worked on enough of them while working at Lexus for over a decade.
Really, a NA V8 iron block is complex? Have you seen what they’re putting into new cars these days??
Not saying I trust anyone but myself to do maintenance but there are a lot more complex engines out there.
