2005 4runner Gas Smell. Help me!

Hi guys,

My 4runner has a gas smell inside the car when I drive my car cold, uphill or when I full throttle.

I took it to my Dealership and they cant find the problem ,also my warranty is already over.

My car is running on only 31k mile and its a 2005 year.


HELP ME PLEASE!

If this is a gas smell and not the sulfur smell then the most likely place for the fumes to be getting into the cabin is via ventilation system.

With that few miles the rig has spent some time sitting around. I would find a good local mechanic that will trace down all the fuel lines in the engine compartment and check for cracking/poor seals/connections.

At full throttle you are pulling max amt of fuel through the lines. Cold temp means metal components are most contracted and may be affecting metal to rubber connection integrity.

Just some thoughts. This is one of those problems that may require a bit of investigative time and or luck to find ... or both.

You're not overfilling are you...going beyond the first 'click'?

if you have the back window down and press the pedal fairly hard the fumes from the exhaughst will funnel into the car. our trucks create a spiral effect behind the door, similar to a truck bed. the only way i was able to fix it is to turn the tip out. not sure if the wing is off any help, may be worth looking into as well

This may or may not help you. But in a previous Honda I owned I had a strong fuel odor suddenly one day and when I was poking around in the engine bay noticed fuel accumulating near the injectors. Turned out to be a bad injector O-ring, easy fix. Not sure if the 4Runner uses the same injection type system or not but worth a look at. Cheers
