2005.5 4Runner?

I recently had someone specify the model year of their 4Runner as 2005.5. Typo, or were significant changes made halfway through the 2005 model year?

I do see one engine chip supplier that lists 2005.5 as a model.

Never heard of a 2005.5 4Runner. 2006 of course was the model year which got the mid generation "refreshening" which included such things as LED tails, projector style headlights, a few slight styling tweaks to the bumpers, V8 with VVTi horsepower boost, etc.

Thanks. Just wanted to confirm that some of those changes weren't made toward the end of the 2005 model year. This isn't typical of Toyota, and sounds like it wasn't the case here, either.

In 2005, V8 got VVT-i and V6 got the 5-speed auto. I think there were other cosmetic changes like Limited having body color center bumper trim instead of silver.

My understanding is that the 4Runner didn't get the VVT-i horsepower boost until the '06 model year. However, the GX470 did get the VVT-i in the '05 model year.

I think it was the Land Cruiser, Sequioa, Tundra and Lexus LX470 that got the VVT-i upgrade 4.7 V8 in 2006 and had the non-VVT-i 4.7 V8 for MY2005. My 2005 4Runner brochure does list 4.7 V8 VVT-i with 270hp and 330ft-lb of torque.

The 2005's definitely had the VVTI V8 engine. The 2005 V6's received a 5 speed transmission as well. Other upgrades for the 05 model year were cosmetic.

Thanks Uneek, my mistake. I did a little searching and found a couple of old threads, the first one says that Toyota apparently was going to delay production of '05 V8s until November and the second one looks like the first guy on this forum with an '05 V8 and he got it on 12/4 which seems to jive with the delayed November production. So it does look like all '05 V8s are VVT-i, just delayed production

my 04 is vvti. only 03 v6s and v8s were not vvti, and 04 v8s may not have been either

If you have the 4.0 V6, 1GR-FE, it always had VVT-i. Toyota never made the GR series in non VVT-i, at least not in the US. In 2005, the 1GR got mated to a 5-speed transmission.
