2005 Sport V-8 with XREAS suspension

I stopped at the 4Wheel Drive Parts store here in Sacramento today. Wanted to check on the availability of the Cornfed or Daystar "leveling" kit for my 4Runner. The guy I talked to seemed knowledgable but told me it could not be lifted/leveled with the XREAS suspension because of the lines of the shocks attaching to the top of the "shock" I tried to tell him I wasn't doing a suspension lift but was just doing a body lift just to raise it about 2 inches to get rid of the low look of the frontend. So I asked about waiting to do it after my XREAS shock/shocks started leaking and replace the system with aftermarket shocks/springs and struts. He said I could not do it because the XREAS system was hooked in with the "ECM" system and when I changed my suspension height it affected I guess the "ECM settings. I told him I did not have the adjustable suspension (the ability to raise or lower the back end) just the XREAS shocks . I was told I would have to go to the Toyota dealership and have the XREAS system replaced with a new XREAS system. Needless to say, I know it can be done from what I've read and seen here, and I've read nothing at least as far as I can remember about the system being tied into the "ECM" system. I appreciate your help.

Harold, I am by no means a knowledgable source, however I do know that several 4th gen owners have simply added spacer lifts to their stock XREAS suspension with no issue/argument from retailers...

I have an 04 SE and swapped out my XREAS for the Toytec 3" Ultimate Lift Package (coilovers). Simply removed the entire XREAs system and through it away. To my knowledge there is no automated suspension levelling available with the sport model (perhaps the Limited?) so this shouldn't be of any concern.

I am sure you will get plenty of more detailed responses shortly, but I am pretty sure you should be able to do this w/o any problems. Good luck!

Kind of what I thought......what did it cost you to replace the XREAS?

To my knowledge there is no automated suspension levelling available with the sport model (perhaps the Limited?) so this shouldn't be of any concern.

Limited had an optional rear air suspension, but most did not have it. Mine has XREAS, but no rear air suspension.

As is usually the case, 4 Wheel Parts is wrong. Although it is more of a pain to install, you can definitely use spacers and XREAS. I ran a Cornfed 3/1 and FJ springs for some time with ZERO issues. Also, I can say without hesitation that that ECM is in no way tied to the XREAS system, they are completely separate.

A Cornfed/Daystar is a suspension lift, not a body lift by the way. A body lift is in no way involved the suspension, and lifts the entire truck equally- it is a set of pucks that go between your body mounts (so between your frame and body).

Why was he saying that you needed new XREAS?

It just got thrown in with the conversation.......I told him I was wanting the body lift and looking to see what they had in stock......and it went down hill from there.....luckily, I had read enough on here to know or thought I didn't have to replace the XREAS with the XREAS when it needed to be changed and have done enough vehicle maintenance on older cars to know the suspension (XREAS) and the ECM system were separate and not connected in any way didn't realize so much bad info could be given about one truck in one conversation though
