2005+ Starter Replacement - Anyone Done It Themselves?

Anyone tackled this?

Lots of stuff floating around on the 2004 and older job, but there is some additional hardware on the 2005+ models that gets in the way. Hoping someone on here has done the job and can share some tips.

Just did this over the weekend on my 2005. Undo the front driveshaft at the front diff for wrench clearance. Remove bolts from underneath. Remove the front driver side wheel and undo brake line brackets to get a bit of wiggle room and it comes out through the driver wheel well with a bit of wiggling. No need to mess with the exhaust or steering shaft.


*edit just realized you might be talking about a 2uz. Can't help you there. This was done on a 1gr.

Mtran stole my thunder on this for the V6. I got the hint about the driveshaft after reading several threads and that made a world of difference. However....I was convinced that some kind of serious game of Tetris was going to squeeze that starter out of a variety of spaces. No-go.....move those brake line brackets and you can wiggle/twist it out just above the frame rail. You have to gently bend/flex some of the hard lines to make room. Be careful and take your time.

2UZ starter is under the intake manifold.

I haven't had to do mine but there are a lot of YouTube videos about replacing the air injection pump. Should give some good info on getting the manifold off.
