2005 vs 2006

Comparing prices between 2005 and 2006 v8 models and seeing several thousand dollars between asking prices. I like the round fenders and lights of the 2006 but is there any reason to chose one over the other? If the difference is just the body I would rather save the cash. Looking at Limited trim. Thanks.

The difference is in the body only.
Looks is obviously very subjective and like the look of rounded fenders from the side, but I hate the look of the 2006-2009 models from the rear: those rounded fenders are wider and make wheels being “inside” to much for my taste.
I also do not like the look of the rounded fat bumper on 2006 and up… so I went with 2005 model when I was looking for my 4Runner.

Im trying to look up the facts on this, but for some reason i want to say there were some definate changes made betwen 2005 to 2006 4Runners.

Is that when the V8's got the VVTI?

Is that when the tranny's went to 5 speed + sealed?

Projection headlights vs the original style?

I bet others will chime in on this.

I'm looking for the '06 myself. Here is some info:
The 2006 model year marked the fourth generation's mid-cycle refresh. The changes included revised front and rear bumpers; a reworked grille; new projector-beam headlamps and LED tail lamps; additional chrome trim on the SR5 model; and a smoked-chrome grille with tubular roof-rack and step bars on the Sport Edition. The revised front bumper features circular fog lights and a relocation of the turn-signals to the headlamp assembly. The redesigned bumper eliminates the rear bumper reflectors. MP3 playback capability and an auxiliary input jack were added to all audio systems. In addition, the Limited model was further differentiated from the other trim levels with the addition of unique 18" wheels and a seat memory system. :reddance:

Toyota 4Runner History 2006

2005 is when the 4Runner received powertrain updates. The V8 got VVT-i, the V6 got a 5-speed transmission. I believe the sealed transmission in the V8 started in 2004.

2006 was mostly cosmetic changes, different fender flares, cladding and bumpers, projector headlights, LED tailights, 18" rims and memory seats on the Limited. Bluetooth was added to the navigation system, MP3 playback and aux for all radio options.

changes

Comparing in reality i found also the following changes:
2006 has additional airbags
Side doors are closing in better style
Some people say that there were some improvements in v6 engine, but i never saw any facts in manuals
